The block broke? Or the long "ear" of the starter?

My stock starter was subjected to major trauma .. the starter was trashed.. But it didn't break anything on the block..

It broke one of the ears on the starter, and one of the mounting points (on the block).

Mine did that when I put my new Optima Red Top battery in

My g/f uncle is a welder, and he just cleaned off the area around the break and welded it. It's been working fine for about two months now.

I tried JB Weld btw.........didn't do ****, actually made it harder for him to weld

You can weld the block but the starter is trash I think. Try valvegod@aol.com for a cheap starter. His price is lower than GM and that's w/o a core charge.

Did you try to start the car when the motor was on?

Yeah, thats what happened... I ordered a new starter from valve god this morning. From what he said there were 2 style starters. One had 1 short bolt and 1 long bolt.. and the latter had 2 long bolts. He said the one that had 2 long bolts is a lot more resistant to torque. Im gonna weld my block and then switch to the new style starter. I sure hope it works
