Default Valve cover breather?

Will a valve cover breather help with oil consumption? How well will it work with the LS1 engine?

Thanks.

Doug, Did you have problems with oil consumption before the breather install?

Thanks, Paul

I don't know about helping with oil consumption. But I used the metco breather for this reason. I noticed that the oil pan gaskets were leaking oil after they had been changed after numerours juice runs. I installed the breather and it seemed that it allowed more pressure to escape with the juice. It helped alleviate the unwanted pressure in the engine with N20 use.

Well, I went ahead and ordered one.
Haven't heard of many people using it on their LS1's. I guess it can't hurt???

Fast Toys had the best price I could find for the Metco breather.
I think Mike Morgan said that my compression would be about 10.6 with the MMS S2 heads so this may be a good addition to the car.

The breather is definately good for fighting off oil leaks, since it helps vent crankcase pressure that can be harmful to various gaskets. I also noticed a slight decrease in oil consumption running one, so it was definately worth it..

I ordered mine from www.ls1motorsports.com

You can use a K&N filter just like the Metco one if you get a threaded spud that has a nut that goes on the backside. The topside is a smooth tube and the filter is held on with a hose clamp. Check at an off-road shop or a sandrail parts retailer. If the cover is thick enough, you could thread it to 1/4 pipe and use a 1" nipple with a K&N clamped to it.

The breather replaces the Oil Cap? Is that correct? Sorry, I am a LS-1 newbie. I have a 2002 Camaro Z28.

It takes the place of the whole plastic oil fill coming out of the valve cover. It was a b!tch getting mine off. Everyone said 1/4 turn counter-clockwise. It did come right out, though a bit harder than I thought it should have.
The Metco fit right on and looks great. I was afraid it wouldn't fit under my shock tower brace, but no problems.

What are the pros and cons of running a crankcase vent filter? Will any codes be thrown? I understand it is good for promoting seal life. I am running a 2002 Z28 with a SLP air box and SLP strut tower brace.
Thanks!

There's no downside that I know of and as mentioned above will help relieve excess valve pressure and help prevent leaks. No codes. It looks clean under there too.

I have the LS6 valley cover w/a catch can. I get leaks around the oil pan also. Does the LS6 pcv not do a good enough job relieving pressure? I'm thinking about getting one of these breathers.
