Default Cutout ? Opinions please.

I was wondering if anybody runs their
flp headers with the cats and an open cutout? I am currently running the off road pipes with my Whisper cat back. I was thinking about installing the cats when I replace the clamp that I have hit on a speed bump? Will it cause any power loss? Will it be much louder than the stock y-pipe w/ cats and a cutout?

Thanks.

If it created a power loss...then people wouldn't be putting them on their cars

Another thing...yes it'll be louder. Wait till you run it w/out cats and through the cutout

I have a setup similar to yours. With FLP headers I run no cats and take the cutout off the the track. Worth about a tenth and 1 and 1/2 MPH in ET. I have a H/C. The cutout is too loud to run on the streets for me.

I guess my question wasn't clear. I know the cutout is supposed to help. It didn't help my car at all. I never run with the cutout open because of the noise with the FLP's. I am trying to determine if I install the cats and then use the cutout is it going to be alot louder than when I used to run the cutout open with the stock manifolds and y-pipe? I also need to know if the car is going to lose some low end torque with the cutout open?

Yes...it'll be louder runnin the cutout on your aftermarket y-pipe and LTs, than with stock manifolds and y-pipe. You might lose a little tq, but gain on the hp.

How do you know the cutout didn't help at all?

It will be a little louder, but the cats act as mufflers. I was running TTS's with cats and a loudmouth. It was pretty tame until you gave it more than about 1/3 throttle...

I ran the car on the dyno with the cutout open and closed and the car showed no gains. I have also run it at the track both opened and closed and have seen no difference. My Whisper seems to flow very well.

Let's just say that you will definitely draw attention to yourself with the cutout open and you may want to hold your ears while going under overpasses, because it will cause your ears to bleed!!

I have had the best luck with running the off road pipes and the cat-back. I would just run it at the track with the cutout closed and then run it open and see what works better for you. I doubt you are going to want to drive around on the street with the cutout open with no cats.
