True Duals quote
So I currently have Pacesetters running into an ORY and out a Borla cat-back. I'm tired of being illegal, so I'm getting quotes for a custom true duals setup.
Meineke quoted me $980 for a 2.5" true duals setup all the way out the back including 2 cats and 2 Flowmaster 1-chamber mufflers. Is that an ok deal? I thought so but I figured I'd ask you guys.
If it isn't, any idea who could do it cheaper?

Technically, no matter what cats you put on, it's still illegal with the headers since they moved the cats from the stock location. It may pass the sniffer test, but it will fail a visual test. Not saying don't get the cats, just don't expect the feds to be congratulating you.

Then they'd just charge $300 to weld it anyway (I want it all the way out the back).
The TSP kit has the mufflers before the axle, and I want them after it.

300$ to weld in 3 cats?? no.. dont go to Mienike.. find a better shop in the yellow pages...
of course they sell it..
go to TSP, go to 98-02 ... go to exhaust... go to Catback systems... go to the TSP true dual.. or they might call it the Rumbler X...
the system is a bolt on system with slip fit connections.. no welding... a regular exhaust shop should only charge you 50$ per cat install...

A friend of mine just had TD's hung on his 97' Ram for $400 out the door, 3in all mandrel bent with 2 Flowmaster 40's. I would like to think it wouldn't much more for an Fbody, He needed more pipe but it is slightly harder to get it over the axle on a Fbody. $900 seems very steep.

The shop that did my exhaust charged 350$ to fab up a 3" H-pipe then brought the dual pipes back to the axle and dumped them with dyonomax bullets. The guy even pie cut my header collector to point it straight back so we could run the H-pipe nice and straight. He quoted me another 300$ to take the pipes out to the back.

Are you guys talking about crush bent steel here or nice mandrel bent, Stainless?
The number alot of you are throwing out seem way LOW and sound like there is a catch...like it is dumped, no cats and rusting.
I dunno...

Yeah, the quote I'm talking about is INCLUDING cats. I'm an idiot and forgot to ask whether they're using stainless or mild steel. I'll have to ask again.

Sorry for the double-post...
Clarification: $980 for 3" cats in my existing y-pipe, fab into an x-crossover, drawdown to 2.5", taken over the axle on the right side, into 2 Flowmaster 1-chambers, and out the back. This is all using galvanized steel.
As far as the bends he said they used a "compression" bender, not a mandrel bender, but it did "the same thing" and "there will be no kinks in the pipe, it will be completely smooth after it's bent." Sounds like a mandrel bender to me if he's not lying...
Yeah so have at it from there.

I would damn near guarantee you that they aren't gonna be using a mandrel bender...they are just too expensive for any shop. When Speed Inc. fabbed mine up, they just used pre-bent mandrel sections that they cut to the proper angles. As for stainless vs. aluminized pipe, I would also damn near guarantee you they'll use the aluminized...it is easier for them to work with from a welding standpoint.
Get what you want, but even that quote sounds low to me if you want a quality system. People love to throw around low-ball numbers on here, but they are also the ones that like to settle for less than the best. They can argue all they want about it, but it won't sway my opinion one bit. To have this done right, it is gonna take a while to do it, and that costs money.

I have the Bassani True Dual Stainless steel system for my wifes 00' SS.
www.performancepeddler.com has the stainless version for $959.18, I have a wholesale account and was able to get mine for $798.45.
Of course you would have to do the work yourself, but the system is high quality stainless steel with mandrel bends.
If you want it cheaper then that, Bassani's BX aluminized set-up is the same kit just no stainless. $794.xx or $663.08 if you have a wholesale account with them.

Good god this is annoying.
So I went to two other shops, one wouldn't even give me an estimate until Saturday, so screw them. The other one told me it was IMPOSSIBLE to do true duals on a Camaro. I told him he was an idiot and left. Seems to be tough to find someone to do this around here.
In any case I got two Carsound 3" cats online for $146, shipped. Pretty nice deal. The other shops wanted $250 installed, PER CAT. Ridiculous. So I'll shave $250 off right there. That would mean that if I'm giving them the cats it will be $580 for all the way out the back. Is THAT better?
