Default How to get better ground clearence?

I have a 96 trans am and I did a x pipe set up today. Its all up and everything but I CAN NOT get it tucked up at all. Its probably 4, maybe 5 inches off the ground. I know im not going to get great clearance, but I need it tucked up more. Any methods or something on how to get it up there a bit more? Thanks

David

Sure, modify the floor boards. You'll probably need to switch to an H pipe, though.

Why didn't I think of this!? I read in your "make my own muffler" post and saw that you were planning to cut up the section where the passenger's feet go; simple genius. You just gave me renewed confidence in my rear seat delete!

I plan to have my car real low and I didn't want any scraping at all for my true duals. The only option I have is to mod the floorboards. I plan to add tunnels under both the front seats. There is room around the seat motors for it. If you look at the rear seat area from the inside there is that bump and then it drops down for your but to fit in. Just cut out the low part and add sheetmetal flush with the front bump.

Not every one has the guts to cut up their car or a welder to fix it, but if you do, go for it.

Do yo have the car jacked up on all four tires or just the front, because the torque arm will move up and down as you jack up the car in the front or back which will throw off wher you weld the X at. IF you raise just the front the torque arm comes down, so after you lower the car the X will sit lower than what you anticipated, so jack up all four corners and put the X in at the spot with the best clearance and but it almost up to the torque arm and weld her in. You won't get great clearance with an X you can gain another 2-3 inches without it just running straight pipes if this is needed if you plan on lowering the car.

Yeah i plant to just bang on the floor boards in a few places that hang low.

I wish they would of had after market exhaust in mind when they designed our cars.
