Default Installing LS6 intake...but need some help

I'm putting an LS6 intake on my 98 SS and also updating the knock sensors/wire to the 99+ ones due to false knock. I just have a few questions to try and make this go smoothly. A lot of people break the oil pressure sending unit when pulling out the old intake. I heard that if you twist the intake counter clockwise when removing, you might be able to miss the sender and get the intake out scott-free. I'm pretty handy with a wrench...I did my header/motor mount install myself and know my way around the engine pretty well.

To people who have done the LS6 intake swap...What's the best way to go about getting the intake out without snapping the oil pressure sending unit? Would I be better off removing the sensor alltogether before trying to take the intake off? I know there's a special wrench for this, but I couldn't find one specifically made for my car.

Disconnect the vacuum hose from the brake booster. As you're pulling the intake forward, twist and rotate it as needed as someone else feeds the hose through from the back.

I agree, it's not hard to do. Just remove the hose like Rev said and remove the intake slowly. Hold the hose up and out of the way of the sensor. No need to remove it. Be careful putting the new intake back on.

I took a look at it yesterday and today....scoping it out before I started taking **** apart, and it seems like it can't really be that hard to get the intake out without breaking anything. Of course that's the way it "looks." Basically disconnect the hose from the brake booster, feed the hose out slowly (or better yet have an extra set of hands do it), twist the intake as needed to keep it from snagging the hose on the oil pressure sender, and don't rush or force it out? I think I got this

yeah good luck on not breakin anything haha the sendin unit is only $40 at autozone so might as well buy a new anticipating your gonna break it and if you don't you can always take it back. so how do you turn the intake manifold counterclockwise????? kinda tight fit isn't it? unplug everything you can, pull the manifold out in incremints of about 2 inches . . . and make sure when your unscrewing the 10 bolts that hold it in place to do them in the reverse order of how your supposed to install them. Good luck, btw you'll need a o2 sensor socket to get that sendin unit off when you break it

I'm really leaning towards just trying to take the oil pressure sending unit off so I don't have to **** around trying to snake the hose around it. Is that a more efficient way of doing it? Is it even possible to get the wrench back there with the intake on? It looks like I might be able to sneak back there, who knows.

dont bother tring to remove the oil press sen.

By myself I put a rubber band around the rear bolts, 2 people just hold them up on your side. They get caught in the knock sencor wires, and the coolent tubes. take the tape off, and the clips off the harness before you put the LS6 on.

its not bad,,i reallt dont see how people bust stuff up back there,,,unless there gettin too excited and yankin pretty good,,,,,just move it out about 6 inches and sit it back down ,,be sure you have all your connections undone, tubing not tangled,,,and gently pull it all the way out. Be sure you know where everything goes when its time to reconnect. Have fun

Figured I'd give a quick update. I did the swap today, intake and knock sensors. Didn't break the oil sending unit, and I find it odd that so many people do. Although it did take me about 10 minutes to wiggle the manifold out of there because I was really watching what I was doing. Other than that, everything went pretty smooth and took about 3 hours total. One piece of advise I can give is take your time and just slowly move that vacuum hose that comes from the brake booster out using both your hands...it's easy
