Default wtf is this plug for?

it sits right up front of the pass side cylinder head and plugs back into itself then runs back up the cylinder head towards the back of the harness.

I don't know exactly everything that is in that plug but it is an important part of the wiring harness. I accidentally left it unplugged and taped it up after i got rid of my EGR and my car would backfire and die and then wouldn't restart. It threw a camshaft position sensor code so I know it goes to the cam sensor for one.

I think it just a splice in the harness. Mine used to hang up front on the front of the head but I moved it behind the head so it's out of view. You could trace the wires out and see where they goto.

I forgot where it connects to (MAP or the CAM Sensor as stated?).. but I do remember when I was removing some of my extra wire.. and had the harness apart.. that it was looped from the back to the front and to the back again... I later found out that it was for one of the sensors that was moved to the back of the engine and all GM did was make a extention by using some wires and the connector that you see. You can do away with it if you just unplug the extention and reroute the wire and plug directly to the sensor. Check the back of the engine for a plug that looks like the same one in the front part of that harness.
