Default What are your guys Average engine Temps??

Hey guys, i was wondering what your engine temps are?

I have a 160 stat, new cap, new fluids, new temp sending unit.
The car runs around 210. and thats on a nice 75 degree day, i think it should be running a little cooler than that?

My air dam is ok, I even took the a/c condensor out for better air flow. And my fan kick on around 180. Im using a scanmaster to read the temps.

The only thing else i think it can be is the radiator is a little cloged even though it looked clean inside....

I'm pretty sure that the temps in the 1999 ls1's don't really read anything lower than 200. mine's usually at 200 and i have a 160 t-stat also. i think the only thing the temp gauge does is tell you when you are overheating.

It's the fan settings in the computer that determine the high
end and the thermostat that controls the low end of the
coolant temperature range. Assuming you don't have additional
cooling airflow problems (lawn clippings in the fins, etc.).

Mine reads 180-190ish via EFI live. I have my fans set to come at 160 and I have 160 stat also. Helps the tranny cooler to cool my tranny fluid a little quicker also.

my fans are set at 160 and at cruisin speeds it never gets over 160ish......we just took the car on a trip a weekend or 2 ago and in 90*heat in mostly STOP traffic it never got obver 210 the hi speed fan would cut on and cool it back down......mine is a 98 and the gauges actually work in them....

I use the Meziere EWP with a 160 stat. Fans come on at 180 and 190. Normal operating temps are 169 degrees under pretty much any conditions other then bumper to bumper traffic in 100 degree weather. Even then she doesn't get above 195.

I also use the LG Motorsports G2 Supercool Radiator with built in oil cooler. Its about double the cooling capacity of stock. Does a great job. Well worth the $$$

Yeah but does anyone know for which years the temp gauge ACTUALLY works accurately?

through HPT I read up to 220 on a 80ish degree day stop and go. If I turn the fans on high it will pretty quickly bring the temp to 190 at idle. Im on a stock tstat. My gauge always reads 210. I think the 98's are the only ones that are somewhat accurate.

That can't be completely correct. Granted there is antifreeze in the water that raises the boiling point, but 100 Celcius is the boiling point for water....

Water wetter is not needed unless your motors cooling requirement exceeds your radiators cooling capacity.

Just get yourself the g2 Super cool radiator with built in oil cooler from LG Motorsports and watch your problems disappear.

I was told that you will never bring your temp down to 160 in stock trim even if the fans run all the time because the radiator is just big enough to keep it at the temps that all of you are saying you are at, and that the thermostat will open at 160 but will not keep it there. On my car that was true until I put in the dewitts radiator and it does run much cooler now.

Mine stays at 190 even during hot 100+ summer days in north Texas. I did have one incident of over heating, partially due to a trash that got sucked up in front of the readiator.
