Default The AGONY of header/Y pipe choices...join in !?!?!???!??!!

Just checking some stuff out and looking for feedback on this combo:

QTP 1/34" stainless headers for 799.00

Start debate on coated/uncoated for stainless...needed?
Will coating even STICK to SS?

and for this Y/Cat combo...big price difference. Does the difference warrant the price? Lots buy Carsound cats, must be good enough...RT's are smaller...thoughts?

LS1Y3CAT 3" Off Road Y Pipe with Carsounds Cats $500.00

LS1Y3RT713 3" Off Road Y Pipe with Random Tech Metallic 713000 Cats $850.00

Thanks, feedback appreciated.

Chris

These will be on OEM LS1 heads, TR 224 on a 114.

EDIT: Compare this against a set of 4 month used FLP headers for $800.00.

I just went through this myself and after doing alot of searching I decided on the Hookers coated headers, all the posts I found saw really good dyno's and with y pipe out the door is close to 800 bucks, a little less actually.

I'm not sure about the cats, I think QTP did a flow test of them though on his different y pipes awhile back, you might be able to search and find this? If I remember right he tested two different sets of Random Techs and one of them I cant remember which model flowed better than all the other cats.

I have some coated SLP long tubes that have been on the car for about 6 months if you are interested. Asking $500 for them. LMK

Kooks! TEA is having a GP right now. I got a set of stainless 1 7/8" X 3" with a Ypipe for $958 shipped. I think you could get the headers in stainless by themselves for $750 shipped.

I am in the same boat as you...agony.

I must have all the emmissions hook ups and cats. I must have a ceramic/thermal coating. I must have headers that fit correctly. I really don't feel like getting raped for $1300 by a header company.

I've narrowed my choices down to the following:
Jet-hots w/ catted y-pipe (if it ever becomes available)
Jet-hot coated Macs
Coated Bassani's

All three should be under $1000 (Bassani's when they are on sale), fit well, have cats and perform well. The Macs do come with a 50,000 warranty, the Jet-hots come with a three year warranty. That is all pretty good stuff.

I know with the mid-lengths I am giving up some power over the LT but my purpose isn't to wring out every last HP I can. My purpose is to have a nice running street car that can be driven anywhere, any time and is street legal. Banging pipes, burned wires or stinky, raspy exhaust is not fun to me.

same here. I need cats in a Y. I don't know if there is room in Kook's Y for cats, even the small ones that X sells.

I'm from Terre Haute, originally. Now a Texan!

That's what you say now but the 1st time you get beat or go to the track and run a best of 12.01 instead of 11.99 you'll say " I should have got the long tubes!"

The best thing IMO is to decide on which headers you want and custom make a Y w/or w/out cats. I did one with mandrel bends for $50 for the bends and $40 for the Flowmaster collector and $120 for the Carsound cats. Works great and doesnt hit the floor. Pic shown has bullets in the Y, but they were replaced w/ cats. Y pipe pic

I'm also looking at LT/Cats/X pipe/true duals out the back, yes, all the way.

In the QTP test, the metallic RT's outflowed the next best cat by about 100 CFM. The Carsounds where right there with the best flowing cats after the RT. The RT ceramic did crappy so stay away from those.

saw that too, may just go with jet hot LT's and a Y, zing some cats in it...dunno...true duals all the way with Kooks, Kooks and their catted Y into my cat back...

too many choices. At this point, one is bout as good as the other.

Dream exhaust:
Kooks LT, effective cats (No O2 simms), true duals (mandrel bends), x-pipe, over axle..
