Default Any reason not to run a vented catch can?

I'm in the market to get a catch can, and I noticed that catchcans.com (along with other people) have vented and non-vented catch cans. They say the vented CC is designed for more heavily modded engines, but I'm wondering if there are any negative effects of running a vented catch can on a mildly modded engine?

Thanks in advance,
Jim

I didn't think there would be an issue, but I was just curious. Sorry for asking a somewhat stupid question.

I don't have any emissions controls at this point anyways (Yay North Carolina) so I'm not too worried about that part.

Thanks for the help guys.

You don't care about the baby seals?

I'd say the only thing that COULD happen is that you might get some light oil misting through the breather if there is a good amount of pressure flowing through the system...but that would probably have to be a good amount of pressure (like from a blower/turbo/nitrous).

Eh, baby seals are overrated

That's what I would have thought about the "misting" with any kind of boost, but it's actually reccommended (on their site) for boosted motors. I don't have much trouble with oil passage since I either use German Castrol 0w30 when I can find it and Mobil 0w40 when I can't find the Deutsch stuff. Figured it probably couldn't hurt to have a CC though.

*Jimbo98z*-you might want to recheck that (emissions) in NC. Good old Gov. Mike Easly a (D) has made all of NC '96 and up (emission). If I am wrong please tell me,so I can get my car back on the road!

If you use a Vented CC, I would do a way with the stock PCV system, I don't think they are designed to work that way.

I went with a new updated pcv valve, and a sealed catch can and I haven't gone thru much oil at all. I would run a breather but didn't want to get oil everywhere, and thats the only reason. If I run breathers I will do it the right way and put one on each valve cover.
