the ticking noise almost sounds like an exhaust leak, although I don't believe that's what it is. It's proportionate in frequency with RPMs -- i.e., faster when at higher RPMs.

Car now also almost stalls when at very low RPMs and in second gear (e.g., slow-rolling a stop sign). This sucks.

Any ideas anyone?

did you get all the plug wires snapped on??? or some of your plugs may be loose and that ticking is the arching of the plug wires to the plugs. check those first.

You most likely have a spark plug or two that aren't completely tight. Ask me how I know (rather, ask my wife - Miss Know-it-all!!)

Thanks so much, guys -- that was exactly it -- loose wire. Should've thought of that myself, but thanks to the forum, it's all good now.

Andreas.

No, all that's gone, happily. I have NGK55s now.

Glad to hear you figured it out. My suggestion was going to be either the plug wire, or it could have been a cracked spark plug itself. I had that problem myself. I found it by running the car with the lights off and I could see the plug arching against the cylinder head where the plug was cracked.
