Angry Bumpstop Woes

So...

I send my throttle body off for a port, polish, and bumpstop mod. I got the thing back in time for Test'N'Tune last Thursday, so I was happy about that. I've got to say the port and polish work was bitchin'. After driving a lifted Jeep Wrangler while I was waiting, it felt like driving a supercar when I got back in the Camaro. It seemed to have plenty get up and go, but I was saving the beat down for the track.

I manage two runs at the track and notice something isn't right. First and foremost, it seems to have a little trouble doing a burnout. I knew it'd light them up alot quicker than that. I ran it twice and couldn't get out of the 13.7s, then handed the keys over to my brother. He gets roasted by a beat up 5.0, then I see the board light up. 14.1 vs 16.2!? WTF!!?!?!?!?!?

I meet him over in the pits, thinking my car has barfed it's innards, and he walks up telling me it won't get more than half throttle. I take it to the test road and everything seems fine.. We hook it up to the programmer to run the codes and we get an unknown.

A couple days later we get the code figured out and it's a problem with the TPS sensor. I noticed, before installing the thing, the throttle blade angle looked a tad optimistic, but I had to get it back together to get back to and from school and work. Needless to say, the bumpstop has been ground down a bit too far. It's fine at anywhere, but WOT.

I've thought about the ol' screw trick, so it can be adjusted. I've also thought about epoxy or an abundance of aluminum tape. I messaged the company tonight to see what they'll do for me, as it's on them, but I'm looking for a temporary fix until then.

Anyone been on the same boat or have any suggestions?

Damn that was a bit longer than intended

tap out the bumpstop and put in a screw to make it adjustable. When you adjust it, don't go for more than 90% of full open on the blade. The TPS will toss a code if it goes past that I think.

The screw trick is what I've been thinking, but I want to see their reply before I fiddle with it too much, you know?

When people port throttle bodies off the car, how do they check the TPS?

Ok, but that has nothing to do with his bump stop mod being grinded down too much causing it to throw codes....

jetlag i dont know if i understood you correctly but,You cant check tps with tb off the car thats why you install it back on and check it with a volt meter

Like RaggedRides said in the first post....we sent the the throttle bodies to a company to do the porting and bumpstop mod. Mine came back fine, his came back with too much grinding causing the TPS code.

So, I was wondering, how most people would do the bumpstop mod off the car. Unless the shop has a "donor" car to test each throttle body on or some sort of external "power source."

Isn't the TPS just a variable resistor? I've never put an ohm meter on it but I assume the resistance varies as the blade moves. You should be able to measure it (resistance, ohms) while it's off the car.

Well, we got the volt meter hooked up to the car, and RaggedRides' TPS voltage was.....dum dum dum..... 4.94...

Just a little bit over the 4.71 limit.............

just extend the TPS sensor screw holes,,,make them oblong, and when u reinstall the sensor, use the "new" area,,,this will reposition the sensor,,,i cant remember which way the holes need to be oblonged though,,,I wanna say Jimmy Blu would know what im talkin about,,maybe he will chime in...or i will find the thread...

Yep check the resistance on the TPS sensor.. If it is 4.71 then most likely they did go to far.. I went to 4.69 to be on the safe side which is almost exactly at 90* on the throttle body blade. Check it out, then get back to us.. I cant remember which color wire you need to use to get the reading but I think its the blue one .. Its been awhile since I did mine.

When a friend of mine ported mine, he did the screw trick. http://www.wtfhost.com//files/248/DSC00633.JPG

That pic was before I installed it, and adjusted the screw. IIRC, it's down to maybe a thread or two sticking out, not much. Then just measure the voltage and adjust the screw until you get it right.
