Default TSP 1 7/8 header install....

This past Sunday/Monday I decided to drop my engine in the SS. I was going to lay both headers in the engine bay to make it easier, but I did not have enough people to hold them out of the way and make sure they were in the right place when I let the engine down.

I put the passenger side one in as the engine went it, so that was pretty easy. I was also able to get the starter in and out with no clearance issures. I waited with the driver's side header until the engine was boted in....which was a mistake.

I've owned QTP headers and Jet Hot headers and both slid in w/o moving the engine. The driver's side TSP header needed the oil filter removed, the engine mount bolt pulle dout so that the engine would roll over to the passenger side for clearance, and I also needed to remove the dr side motor mount stand from the frame. The vehicle was atlease 18" off the ground if not a little more.

After all that it slid right in and both headers clear everything. I had to grind a small amount of the pinch weld off the kmember with both the QTP and Jet Hot headers, but these seem to clear everything.

The pluses are that they are 1 7/8, coated, $480, with 3/8 flanges.

The negatives are that the coating is pretty light and bare in some spots, some of the welds look a little bit on the cold side by the collectors, the tubes are not welded on the inside of the flanges but the outside welds are nice, the dr side header was a PITA to install.

Overall I would rate these a 7.5/10. The JetHots seem to be a better made and coated header, but they requires a little clearabce on the kmember. The QTPs were way nicer than both, but also cost 250 more per set.

Just some info for you all

the tubes are not welded on the inside of the flanges
I saw that on mine also. Think it's a big deal? Doesn't look conducive to smooth air flow.

i doubt you would see any HP increase from that being welded, but it would go a long way towards a better header construction by having it welded there. i'd also be concerned with moisture sitting in there and rusting where the weld meets the tube on the inside.

Thanks for the info, Looks like I made the right choice by holding off on a newly designed product. Hopefully they get somethings straightened out and the price stays the same for future purchases.

My install isn't going to be so conclusive cuz I have so much other stuff going on at the same time.

I agree and I was just thinking about that! I got suck with some emission legal header when the car has no emissions components and im really not a fan of this so Im really debating on selling them and getting the only reasonably priced 1-7/8ths "Race" style long tubes.

Pics and more opinions would be great!

welds look pretty good. Mine were welded inside the merge collector. Coating seems pretty good but I haven't seen the coatings on any other set of headers.

I have solid motor mounts on my car and i'm gonna have to remove the drivers side mount to get that header in (and even then I may have to unbolt the passenger side one and lift the motor up a little if it doesn't fit, cuz it looks like it's gonna be a tight squeeze, but definately has to go up right through where my motor mount sits), the passenger side slipped right in with no issues and starter bolted in. Overall looks like a nice header (especially for the price), did notice though that i'm gonna have to get something to reach up inside the collector on the drivers side header, got a large chunk of metal sticking out from where the o2 bung is, someone obviously wasn't paying attention and didn't debur it or something!
