Bigger is not always better. When picking a header, you want the smallest diameter tube that can handle the maximum exhaust flow that your engine can produce. The smaller diameter keeps the exhaust gas pressurized, which means that it will leave the header faster and allow your engine to breathe better. Think of it like a garden hose...if you take off a hose that works fine, and replace it with a bigger one...the water comes out the end slower. That is not what you want.

1 3/4" will work fine on cars up to 525-550 rwhp. 1 7/8" will take you from there to 700 rwhp. 2" is for anything bigger than that.

That being said...there are differences in design that will improve performance. Kooks for instance will be longer than the SLP's and have the merge collector, and venturi spike...so you may find 5-10 HP or more depending on how modded your car is. That is going from 1 3/4" SLP to new 1 3/4" Kooks.

If you go back and read, I apologized and edited my comments. I simply posted a comment and was just surprised. I'm happy that you know how to increase font size and use the bold function. No move on.

Just try not to ruin your next one as we don't want to hear you bitching again. I'm done with this thread.

+1. I didn't notice any difference (cept sound) going from Macs to long tubes.

They're better because I've packed the backside of the collector spike with manifold repair but I don't think it will last long; and DON'T tell me yours don't leak unless you've done some sort of pressure test on them. I was able to both SEE (I stuffed a flashlight into the backside of the merge collector and could see light through the spike) and HEAR (I completely sealed the exhaust ports and AIR ports, the 02 bungs, and pressurized the system and could detect and hear air leaking from the collector) the leaks. If Kooks has overcome this, kudos to you.
I swear that my passenger side QTP leaks at the collector too. It pisses me off and ........ the header flange was warped. I hate my exhaust because of all the little leaks. I feel I ruined my damn car. I have had that passenger side out 4 times and now it finger printed up too.

The Y-pipe is still basically the same except I think it has notched ends.
