this thread is funny... wonder what the official description is of stock internals. but ya agreed anything that's not a basic bolt on is stock internals for me. anything that is part of the aluminum long block... yes to me even the valve covers would be internal

These are guys who were competing for the SI (stock internal) records.. they pretty much are the authorities on it if you want to challenge the SI record.

Exactly, If you open the hood and can't see it it's internal.

As a side note, maybe add rod bolts to the poll. I have stock rods and pistons with Katech rod bolts. That alone should take me out of the "Stock Internals".

I have always thought of internals as being the crank, rods and pistons. I guess you could say the cam is internal but heads, filter, intake and all the rest of that no.

Lightbulb

I always have been and always will be under the belief that as long as it does not touch engine oil then it is considered a bolt on (aka: stock internals).
In other words, a car that has never had it's valve covers, timing chain cover, oil pan or rear main cover removed.

If you change the heads you are no longer stock internal.

if it touches oil its internal...

short block is short block, stock internals are stock internals

heads and cam are not bolt ons, they are critical engine internals

and judging by the poll results there are at least 15 people who can't read on this site lol j/k
I don't see whats so hard to understand about this...if your valvetrain is not stock then you do not have a fully stock internal engine. It's like a girl buttfucking the football team and claiming to be a virgin.

Why do so many people have issues understand the meaning of the word internal? If you don't call a cam internal than you don't need to be working on an engine at all. I never thought you would have to define stock internals. Stock shortblock is one thing, and then stock internals is an extension of that to include the top end. Of all things to not consider stock internal. . .a cam? You have got to be kidding me people.

A motor that has been apart and put back together using "stock" parts should have a different name. To cut the confusion, I recommend using something different, like "Factory Stock" for example.
Great point. I agree with you

well if you throw a aftermarket cam in there, then pple should use "stock bottom end" more often, meaning pistons/rods/crank. Anyways yea stock internals usually means stock pistons/rods/crank unless you get real technical.

Stock internal should mean stock long block, if you pull a valve cover you have gotten into INTERNALS, if you pull a timing cover your are INSIDE the engine, if you pull a cover and change something you have changed and internal.

sorry, just dont understand how there is a debate about it.

but for the people that just dont get it, the term would be better if it were "stock long block" , if anyone debates about what stock interal's is, they want to use the loophole to their advantage and know it.

Whats funny is more people voted that changing pistons, rods and crank were ok to change as an internal than people that said it was ok to change the block, thats right more people think that changing pistons is ok versus changing the block and using stock pistons ( internals ) lmao

I think shortblock when I hear 'stock internals'
Just what comes to mind. And that is how I voted.

Although, as the last page or so has mentioned, stock internals technically include the cam, valvetrain, etc...
