Default Cat back install on jack stands?

Who's done it? Got any pics? My exhaust is on the way, and I am sans lift. I'm no expert, but I can turn a decent wrench. What am I getting myself into? If it's gonna be a nightmare, I might just bite the bullet and find a shop.

If I go that route, how much should I expect to pay a shop in SoCal to weld up my cat back?

Just installed a GMMG in my garage on jacks. Only thing I had to do was disconnect the panhard upper and lower rods to get the piping over the axle. Added 30 minutes to the job, but overall it wasn't bad.

The hardest thing you need to do is cut the over-axle pipe on the stock exhaust, as you can not pull it out in one piece. If ou have an air cutoff wheel it'll make the job a lot easier.

Depends on your mechanical ability. I've done all my Cat backs on Jack stands with no problems. I've even hand fabed up TD exhaust on Jack stands with no problem.

I pull cat Backs off in one piece no problem. you have to undo the pass side sway bar, shock, LCA, and with the pass side wheel off you can actually pull the whole cat back off. Usually though most people cut it though.. lol!

I would venture a guess to say 90% of catbacks are installed on jack stands. I did the maggy on stands but I have a lift now so I'll be using it from now on. But hell I used to do everything off of jack stands or ramps. Did the cam install, headers, trans mount just to name a few. I've installed a clutch on stands. That ***** no fun.

I installed mine on jackstands as well without removing the panhard bar-but maybe that would have been easier.

I rented a sawsall, hacked off the OEM catback, and bolted my Borla in straight up on jack stands.

You should be just fine.

I haven't got any decent jacks yet, so I paid a local shop to do mine. Cost me $80 cash to remove the old exhaust and bolt up the Loudmouth. They also welded it so it's not going to come apart.

I do as much of my own work on my car as possible and I do it all on jack stands. A lift would be better but not to many people have access to one. I'm getting a bit old to spend alot of time rolling around on the concrete but it gets the job done. Exhaust, headers, gears, pull tranny & install converter, heads/cam, springs, shocks, struts, brakes.... Just be safe. I always place a few extra pairs of jack stands under the car just in case.

mine was easy, only took like an hour or so the pipe fit right over the axle, didnt have to do any modifications, hardest part was getting the stock mid pipe cut, took me 2 blades lol

I just back it up on to rhino ramps and do the exhaust if I need to. PLENTY of room IMO and ramps are pretty damn sturdy. I hardly ever use stands unless I absolutely need to. Then I still put ramps under the wheels...

How high do you have to have it off the ground to get a catback off?

its easy, i thought getting the car on stands was a bigger pita than the removal and install, mabye b/c my jack is older than dirt, but def use a sawzall with a fresh blade on the oem, its like a warm knife through butter. i didnt remove the panhard or anything.

So far I've done all modifications to my car and previous on jack stands. That includes headers, Y-pipes, catbacks, full suspension, camshaft/valvetrain, bolt in roll cage and probably more than I'm forgetting. Have access to a lift through a friend, just never have access to my friend when I need to do the job. Oh we did the clutch on the lift that would not have been much fun doing on your back.
