Default Custom Ram Air

Here is my custom setup guys. For all the non-believers listen to this. Immediately after completing this setup I hooked up my hptuners interface and proceeded to take a log. Before this my IATs would get nice and toasty when sitting in traffic or idiling. Sometimes they would get as high as the 130s. After? Well it was 93 out and my IAT never went higher than 96. The affect of just lowering the IATs would be worth it.

I made the plate that goes under the filter out of sheet metal off a hood.

The rest the parts consist of dryer ducts, and register boots. The register boots are perfect by the way. And word to the wise, Use a hole saw larger than 4" for the core support/plate.

And evidence for me is performance. I tune my car but really haven't done anything except firm up shifts and add timing. My brother's 99 T/A has headers, cam, lid, cut-out, tuned, and dyno'd 369whp. My car has a lid,!muffler, the ram air, and tuning. On the same day at Atlanta dragway with the temps in the 90s his car ran a 13.1@108 while mine cranked out a 13.2@106. Corrected for DA that's like a 12.7-8. There were a couple other f-bodys out the other day with way way more mods than me and my car was just as fast.

Need to paint inside to hide it a little. Have already had a couple people ask if I am supercharged. Also, I drove through a torrential downpour pretty much and checked the filter box for water. The filter was slightly damp just like before I added the ram air and had the free ram air. It even makes a cool sucking sound while stopped if you poke the throttle fast ;-)

Clamped and taped ;-)

Looks like you did a good job on that man. you could probably paint that inside of those tubes black and they'd be less visible.

don't think any air goes over the radiator from those front "holes" in the nose. so i can't imagine it had any affect.

A+ for saving some money
A for effort
B for presentation
A for testing

i still think i'm glad i just ponied up the money for the SSRA. looks better and didn't have to drill anything...just do the FRA mod anyway.

Do you have a picture of how you cut the radiator support?

No change. A/C still works just like it did too.

No I didn't take a pic of it but I used a 4" hole saw and the best way to describe it is about half of the bit actually cut. So it was like two half circles. If I did it again I would definitely use a 4.25" bit because I had to do quite a bit of grinding to get the dryer duct to fit.

And in case you guys didn't notice my bumper is gone too. You could leave it in and do the same thing but there would be quite a bit more drilling.

looks good, but makes me wonder what happens when the straw bale falls off "Farmer Bob's" and goes right in nose, and up. sure the filter will offer some protection, but you have opened up the chance of some pretty nasty road crap getting sucked up and into your engine. why no screen to keep out debris...?

Removable screens are also in the works ;-) Didn't have the materials and was trying my best to get it all buttoned back up so I could lay down the law on the brother's car later that day I was within a tenth so I was very happy.

I was going to do the same thing, but i just put in a FTRA so I wouldn't have to deal with the hassle. But I am still thinking of routing one of the inlet ducts to the side of the ftra amd the other to the radiator by using a setup like yours. Just make sure you get some flatblack paint to paint that dryer hose Good job!

I think it's sick. I thought about doing something like that but could never figure out what exactly I wanted to do. I might have to come see it one day, since I usually in Blue Ridge once a week for work. I would leave the hose silver so everyone sees your setup. Hell of a job man!!

Nice job, and for the most part a very clean looking setup

And BTW. Commerce sucks. You need to go down to Silver Dollar Raceway if you wanna know what your car can do

From what I've heard on here the SLP pac is junk!

I have the same custom ram air on my car. It doesn't affect the radiator cooling at all. I've noticed a better throttle response since the custom ram air.

Nice job man. Thanks for posting up those pics.

I just picked up my stuff to do this the other day and I'm going to tackle it today. Just have to decide exactly how the hell I'm going to attach the upper end of the hoses to the plate under the filter...
