Default Those with SSRA, Fasttoys or SLP ram air

Do you have the front of the intake box sealed or is it open in conjunction with the undercar ram air set up? Any difference in hp, tq, et, gas mileage???

Mine is unsealed. I just dont know what to pick up to seal it properly. The guy who owned it before me had an SLP cold air kit installed.

^^^It's basically a piece of weather stripping that goes in front of the air lid. Just find some at the junkyard and cut off about a foot and a half then trim as you need to. It clips on the front of your radiator support and covers the air intake portion of the lid.

To the OP, I don't think it matters either way. I've done both and didn't notice a difference.

For true ram air, it should be sealed because it allows the incoming air to be pressurized. You may not feel a difference, but it is the way that the RA systems were designed. You could always buy the stripping from FTRA or SSRA makers. It feels like it pulls better from 50mph on up. mpg's have improved a bit

In- only notice difference at hwy speeds, and less low end torque. Out- A little pick up at mid to top and no effect in low end. So i leave it out and allow as much air in as possible.

seal it.
I have a length of foam in my front opening. At the track I notice Im down a mph, and the foam would get pushed out on a end. Put it back in, and the car picks back up.

keeping it open kinda defeats the purpose of the "Ram Air". The opening of the ram air setup is already bigger than the stock air box opening so you are already getting more air than stock, so you might as well seal it all off and try to take advantage of the ram effect, its what you paid for. If you just want "More Air" then save your money and do the Free Ram Air mod.

had mine sealed at first, it was great at high speeds when it could actually work but at low speeds 0-45mph it felt sluggish, took out the seal and i have the low end pep back and still does good at the higher speeds, i say leave it out unless you drag race 98% of the time, it doesnt help with intown driving

wow there is a bunch of shitty advice going on in here...

if you dont know how the system was designed please keep your comments to yourself...

seal up the intake...weather stripping at Menard's...

leaving it unsealed is like trying to blow up a balloon with a hole in it...can never get any pressure to build up...

with it sealed u will have higher hp throughout the entire rpm range...

Default Thx

So for the overall best performance sealed is the way to go. Some of the advice was kind of confusing. So the system cannot pressurize with the stock opening...correct?

Correct, if anything I would think at high speeds any air that should be used to build pressure will be forced out of the stock opening (path of least resistance, air is lazy)
