I weighed my 2001 LS1 long block against my 2003 LQ4 long block, don't recall the numbers, but the difference was only 65lbs. I was expecting 80lbs or more, as often posted here, maybe the 6.0L with iron heads would weigh 100lbs more.

The most common number I've seen is that a bare iron block weighs ~75lbs more than a bare alum block. I've got a bare iron block in the garage, but I'm way too lazy to go weigh it.

Our LQ9 long block motors weigh a tad over 500 pounds, the aluminum motors weigh in at 385. Keep in mind these motors include forged parts so it might be a little different then stock but not far off.

Great info!! I had always heard 75#'s but that really makes a diff on streetcar you want to handle well.I will for sure go aluminum on my rebuild the question will be can I afford a 402 or will it be a 383. Can't go wrong either way
