ok 1st off i have done a search but didnt find what i need.

ok this fall i plan on doing a header install and a cam swap, im my 01 z28 a4. this is not a car i drive everyday, maybe 3 days a week. i think i am going to go with the GM hot cam kit or the TS220/220, im not wanting a ground pounder or a race car just something to give it a nice idle with a power increase. so is there anyone on here that is running this cam, i would like to see a video of it idiling if you have it or is there any drivablity issues. im sure i will have more questions but this is all i could think of right now.

224/224 cam would be a great cam with a stockish sounding idle. You will want more if you go with a 220 cam.

i also agree i really like the comp 224/230's but the 224's and 228's are good cams too, either way they arent crazy cams but sound good make good power, and you wont regret them like you may with the small gm hot cam..

the smallest cam i would ever go with is a 224/224 cam. then again the 224 cam is a proven cam over and over again especially for a street car. but my buddy blkbird is running the GM HOTCAM and loves it.

I dont hear alot about people who actually keep their hot cams... Usually they want to go bigger. If your gonna open it up might want to consider going bigger..

thanks for the replies, ok on TS website its says computer tuning for automatic cars, what is that about. just needing to get all my stuff together before i start buying parts.

oh another ? is a stall required with a cam swap, sorry dont want to sound like a dumb ? but all my other cars that ive had the cams changed on were 5 speeds.

stalls not required if your goin with a cam that small. but tuning would be to get it running right. i know my TR224 cam needed tuning because it had the tendency to stall out at stops and wouldnt idle right on. a stall would make a huge difference from what ive been told, hoping to pick one up soon.

IMHO the advantage the Hotcam has over the others suggested above is the low lift is really easy on springs. Decent power gains and a nice lope so it all is what you want and there have to be comprimises somewhere. It's right for some people and not for others.

If youre considering a hot cam, keep reading and researching before you push the button, cuz once you open up the motor, you will want to do it right the first time. not that you cant go bigger if needed afterwards, but the potential of the 224 cam...great street power and driveability...will not let you down.

i have the 224 and it doesnt sound stock at all, even at 114lsa. still need a tune though, i wanna keep the chop though

but do you have to have a stall with a cam with a 112 lsa, ive heard yes and no. the car will be tuned when done so thats no big deal.

I run the TSP 220 R cam and 5.3 stage 2.5 heads. Stock LS2 intake. Long tubes. Dynoed 368/345 to the wheels. runs 12.3s all day long.

No stall needed. The tune is a must. It'll run too rich at idle and too lean up high without it. Also won't idle without a tune. With proper tune it idles 550RPM.

I'm an old geezer and I love it. 25 MPG with an A4 not bad either.

Yes, the 224R or the 228R are very good cams. I would personally do a stall/cam install at the same time, but it is not necessarily needed. It will run A LOT quicker with the stall also, and likewise a stall needs a good cam to be fully effective. With the right stall and the 224R it should run mid to high 11's all day depending on the location and the 228R should be hitting low 11's all day. I've seen a smaller cam like a 228-230 I believe and a PT4000 stall run a 10.92, again it just depends on location! And the good thing about it is these smaller cams still don't affect the streetability very much and especially the stall with the lock-up for the highway. Good Luck!!
