Default LS1 Block Tap?

Couple of bolts broke off in the block. I pulled the motor and took it to a shop that does bolt removal. He was able to remove the bolt but he does not have a LS1 tap. He can order one for me, but $$$ and I would have no further use for it.

Does anyone have a tap I can borrow? I'll pay rental + shipping

Let me know!

This is for the larger of the two heads bolts

I'd go to a local hardware store and look for whatever size it is. i had to get the crank tap, and the local nuts and bolts place had one for $15

I'd just go buy one. The cost isn't that much and this way you have it. I forget the size, I wanna say 11 x 2.0 metric. I think I had to order through the local shop because it was an odd size. You might need to get a both a regular tap and a bottoming tap. This is for the cylinder head bolts......

The guy said he can order one... for $160, and I can say with certainty that I will never use it again.

Doesn't one of the sponsors on here carry the tool to clean out the head bolt holes?

Are you sure its 11x2.0mm ?

An 11x1.5mm tap is 15 bucks in the MSC catalog .

If its an 11x2.0mm extended length tap i can see its being 150 bucks .

I just had 2 pcs 21x1.750mm taps made and it was $110.00 each .

Actually i just remembered i have that thread in one of my cnc lathes ,, i will check it tomorrow morning .

Yep, the large head bolt is m11x2.0.

Found some confirmation, just to make sure it wasn't an odd tap I had laying around.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...bolt-help.html

If you have trouble finding one local let me know. Mine is just sitting in the tool box right now. It is a bottoming tap, so as long as the upper portion of the threads are ok, you should be able to get it started. If the hole is pretty tore up, you might be better with a helicoil insert? I'm not a machinist so I don't know the best way for you to proceed.

You shouldn't need an extended length tap....the hole isn't so deep that standard length bottoming tap won't reach.

ARP and Kent Moore make a thread cleaner/chaser for our head bolt application, I think they sell for $50+/-. But if you have damaged threads, you will need a tap.

Here is the ARP thread chaser.....
