Chuck Anders in Houston tuned the car. I think he was from HPE at one point.

Those numbers look like they are on 7 cylinders or the result of a cam being degree'd wrong/ground wrong, etc.

Either that or the 12.0:1 compression is way off.

Sounds fun. Like a mystery.

I'd pull the cam and make sure all the lobes are still there.

He must have been pissed at the car to up and sell it.

Did you get the new wheels he was waiting on.

First hit was 392 so it gained 15 from the tune but the power ban is really smooth now. Im going to change the plugs and wires and have it compression tested. If it was running 7 cylinders the tuner would have noticed right?

Not necassarily, when I had my Mustang tuned I went down and we did three pulls before we figured out one of the cylinders wasnt firing. Turned out that the #3 piston was melted all the way down to the 1st ring. We figured it out by pulling wires though, not on the dyno.

the compress. test would show something like that though. so thats a great idea.
then I like the idea of degreeing the cam. the cam has been changed, but has the timing chain? what about the crank? is it aftermarket too? never know, one of those could be off and the cams retarded 5 or 10 degrees. that would kill power for sure.

Are the knock sensors disconnected due to the new pistons. It doesnt take much detonation to melt a piston but I think your friend would have had the power and felt the loss if a piston went out. I'd do the compression and maybe even a leakdown and if those were alright look to the cam.

If the knock sensors werent disconnected or shut off they could be pulling timing with those new pistons too.

Well I think he put the cam in I'm not too sure. The cam being off makes a lot of sense from what I have read through previous threads. I will try some **** out and let you guys know thanks for the help. I just really hope the motor isn't fucked

Even if just one piston was screwed, you could get it out w/o doing a whole teardown (if it didn't do any wall damage). Have you tried pulling individual plug wires while the car is running? You can easily hear (or not hear is the best way to say it)if you have a problem cylinder that way unless the cam is really choppy then its hard to tell. If you can't tell that way, just do the compression check. Very easy to do.

Do you have a degree wheel for setting the cam?

It really doesn't sound like the motor is screwed, just needs some attention. I've never heard of a crank being off, beside the lower cost ones, like the cheap eagle and cheap Scats. I have heard of journals having unacceptable runout or being out of round but that would cause bearing failure and not cause these issues.

that was just an example. when they machine that little keyway, it could be a bit off. as any step in any machining process could be. thats why you should always degree the cam in to make sure everything is where its supposed to be. if you search on cam degreeing results you'll see its more common then people think. not usually 10 deg but still. a little off can give you a significant reduction in power.

Sounds stupid but 2 years ago my car was feeling weak with no torque...after I checked the wires, one or 2 were not fully plugged I was happy to recover the power!
