Powdercoating ls1

block anyone done it,pros and cons of doing it.Would there be heat dissapation issues doing that,i know gm powdercoats the lsx block from the factory but it's iron.

i have never seen it done or anything. but if you can get a powercoat that won't burn off i would say the difference in heat transfer would be insignificant.

Yea i have heard of it and I have also taken a look at the engines torn down, I dont think there is any real heat transfer issues since the block probly dissipates less than 10% heat to the outside in comparison with over 90% to the coolant and out the radiator the way its designed. The reverse flow heads on the ls blocks should make powdercoating even more safe than engines that dont have that flow style. I think if you had any problems at all it would be something to do with your build and not the powdercoat

I would just be

powdercoating the outside of the block .

These are old pictures, alot has changed since I originaly put this engine in but it still looks great. I used Duplicolor High Heat engine paint, and it has held up wonderfully.

I'm looking at something called smoke chrome it's a real pretty glossy gray,i see you live in lawrenceville i lived there from 2004 until 2006,nice town.

I dont think you will, anodizing a casting wouldnt look that great IMO. a casting isnt a pure grade (like a billet fuel rail) so the color wouldnt be that uniform. but if it would that would be a cool look!
not to get offtrack I dont think powdercoat would effect coolong at all, I'd be more worried about how well it would it adhere. would the surface have to be sand blasted to rough it up? good luck cleaning all that out of the block. i juist had a rear end powdercoated and looks great externally but there was a bunch of trash in it. It took me a good amount of time to clean it out too.
