about to install CAM
about to install CAM first off, my LS1 has 160,xxx miles on it.
i need some advice on installing my cam.
with that many miles do i need to remove heads.
Any advice will be helpful,

I wouldn't pull the heads unless you were going to send them off to have a valvejob done. With that many miles that might not be a bad idea (or at least lapping them).
I'd do as above: New oil pump, timing chain, valve seals... Personally I wouldn't pull the heads unless I was going to put a different set on (ported 243/5.3 or aftermarket).

Pull the heads and install some LS7 lifters IMO. I put in a fairly mild cam (Torquer 2 - 232/234) on my car with 80k miles and had a lifter fail shortly after. Nothing is worse then being excited to drive your new cammed car and then having to tear it all apart again to replace a lifter.
That, and you also have a good chance to look at the health of the motor. At 80k miles, my engine still has hone marks in the cylinders with absolutely no scratching. The heads look nice as well. Just some reassurance that your motor is healthy and well taken care of.

From what i've been told there is really no difference between the "ls7" lifters and the stock LS1 lifters. Probably went with a different supplier (maybe better). But most seem to say that it's the same as a stock lifter.
Now if you had 100k plus on the engine, it's never a bad idea...???

im replacing for sure: cam, springs, t-chain, and push rods...
i know i need the oil pump and lifters, unless someone has these items cheap im going to hope for the best??!!

I have a QTP performance oil pump like new - sells for $180 and I will sell it for $90 shipped! Also have new lifter trays that I would sell you for another $20 if purchased with the pump!
if it were me i would only buy a new oil pump and timing chain... thats not something you want to go cheap on...
saving 20 bucks could cause you a huge headache and a lot of money..
