Default 224 on XFI lobes vs TR224

I had a TR 224 in my previous car that I sold and loved the way it performed and drove. I would like to go with the same size cam but was wondering if the XFI lobes would make a little more power or go with the very prooven TR 224 cam again.

Depending on the heads, there's no doubt the XFI will make more power since the lift is greater.

Those are some very good numbers for a cam that size with stock heads. I was considering the same 224/230 cam that you have since I am gonna go with spray also. What LSA do you have it on, also would you happen to know the ICL of the cam also?

224/230 .609/.604 113+2 is what I'm running. The extra lift and 6 degrees on the exhaust helped alot.

There's been several threads on here of ~430-440rwhp/~390-410rwtq using stock 243 heads (low numbers are for 5.7 while the higher end are the 6.0). I'm curious if the TR224 can achieve the same.

This thread is interesting because none of the big cam names have responded

The 'new' XFI lobes haven't caught a whole lot, so I wouldn't expect much of a response from the typical XER crowd.

What was your reason for going with the larger split?

I installed a 224/236 XFI cam in my LQ4. I ahven't had it on the road yet to see the difference in that and my old 228 cam.

There isn't much love for the XFI lobes here is there.

Patrick G spec'ed it for me based on my needs, so I rolled with it. Patrick G has spec'ed a ton of XFI/XFI cams while Predator is doing alot of XFI/XER. They are two of the most knowledgable cam people on here, so I'm shocked that more vendors haven't jumped on the bandwagon.

an XFI 224 has the potential to make much more power than the tr224.

Its all based on the setup of course.

I've cut many custom grinds based on XFI lobes and have had very good results with them. They are more stable than XE-R lobes WITH more lift... a win-win in my book.

Thanks,
Shane

I have decided to go with the 224/230 that Ryan L has but I don't want to rev it as high. From the graph in his video it looks like it pulls to around 6800 RPMs and I would like to shift no later than 6500 since I will have either a 99 or 00 LS1 car. So what LSA and ICL should I have it ground on to meet my goals?

You are correct sir... They are our own lobe. I was just commenting that the XFI lobes are great lobes.

Thanks,
Shane

110 Lsa + 0 advance would peak around 6300 rpm and have awesome low end torque. Or you could do a 111 + 1.

I bet there are quite a few people with custom cams running XFI lobes but the don't know it.
