Default It started as a header install...

Ok while doing a header install I discovered that one of my manifold bolts was broke in the head. I already have the motor down to the heads and could pull it and get it fixed easily. But I'm thinking while I have it down would be a perfect time to change heads and maybe cam. I'm looking at the prc 2.5 5.3s and the 2.5 ls6s. Also I would like to do like a TSP 224 or 228 cam or smaller. This car will go to the track but rarely mostly I want a really fun to drive street car. I'm gonna call TSP about advice on what to get. My bottom end had 100k on it and has some oil leaks, so I will probably pull the motor to put new seals, should I worry about having somone clean up the block and redo the crank bearings or just go with em like they are? Also with high mileage the slightly higher compression of the 5.3s shouldn't give me any problems should it?

No comments at all, surely someone has done this. My thoughts are it should be fine, but I don't wanna be that close and regret not going through the bottom end.

If you are not going to track the car, I would avoid the TSP cams. They seem to perform well up top, but have low rwtq #'s.

So how many low tq TSP cams have you run that have been low on torque, Agreed the MS cams are but they are not a street cam anyway.

LG cams must be lacking torque also since Louis invented thos XE/R lobes that TSP uses for their medium grind cams and his own LG series cams LG cams are known to kickass time and time again and make power everywhere.

So......I respectfully disagree......

Alright I'll just call TSP and get their thoughts. Thanks for the help.

....get one of their 408 long blocks and you're all set.

I called TSP today and they suggested the 2.5 5.3s and the 224 without a stall and the 228 with one. Now my decision is back to this 100k motor. With the cam I would change oil pump, lifters, push rods, timing chain, gaskets, etc. It would be like $2200 for heads and cam. For another 400 or so dollars I could replace all the bearings on the bottom end and the rings. Only thing I didn't get was a price on honing the cylinders. My other option is pull the head and get the bolt out for almost nothing, or just get the 5.3 heads. All cuz of these dang headers, lol. Course I could always just sell my motor and buy TSP long block. I have trouble deciding what to eat most days, lol, damn decisions.

I busted the last bolt back on drivers side when I did my header install. I ended up pulling that head and had it drilled out for an insert. Don't feel bad, it happens to all of us sooner or later.
