I just got one for my car and I've heard anywhere between 0-10RWHP, but what interested me more was the extra drag that you will be losing off the engine by adding one, which could drop a tenth or more off your E.T.

I installed one on my SBC and figure 8 or 9 horsepower. Problem was I also installed a Mufflex 3 1/2" cat back and gained around 26 horsepower on the dyno. So I have to split up the power gain between the two.

the way i see it...if you are seeking every last way to maximize your HP/TQ in your car...then yes you need to buy one...if its one of your first mods...they i would say your money may be better spent in other areas...

agreed...
also if you're needing to put a new WP on anyway due to the old one failing...for a little extra money you can have better cooling, better looking, and more power.
i put one on my car in january
it seemed slightly faster, but truely hard to tell
it DID seem to rev up faster, kindda the same feeling as putting an underdrive pulley on. which makes sense its doing basically the same thing...reducing parasitic loss on the engine.
i put the reccommended bypass holes in the thermostat...and i put a 160deg stat in....and i think i should have either gone smaller or used the supplied 185 stat. the car runs a good operating temp when moving, but it takes forever to warm up. and i'm in florida and am only dealing with 50-70deg weather as my "cold" days.
as for the cost per hp deal
you gotta pay to play.
guys are spending $1000 on FAST intakes, for 15-20hp....which i think is worth it.
guys spend $250 on UDPs for <5hp
i think its a good mod depending on what you are trying to do.
i justify it as a bolt on i was able to do in an afternoon, in my apartment parking lot, minimal tools and no retuning required.
i got it on sale and enjoyed installing it.
it looks sexy
it keeps the engine cooler and looks sexy doing it.
how YOU justify it as a worth it or NOT worth it is up to you

i can hear mine when i turn the ignition on...so i can tell that its running.
i didn't install any kind of switch...although i thought of adding one to help with warm up.
if you monitor your guages as often as you should, i would think you could pick up on any failure.
but electrical or mechanical....a pump can fail any time.

Got it off Corvetteforum.com, and no i have not, I have it wired up to my fuel pump that way it only comes on when my fuel pump does, I have thought about putting a switch in but who knows.
