Default 1,200 for cam install... WHAT...

the repair shop i use in the past to do most of my mods nos, pully's, etc... just priced me at 1,200 for a cam install.. that sounds like highway robbery to me.. any other good install places in the Philadelphia or South Jersey area.. what is a reasonable install price. thanks,,

Try Rapid Motorsports----->Sponser to the right. He just did a cam install on my buddies car and he did one on his previous car. I think he is around the $400 range. The shop should be close to you.

Why not try to tackle it yourself on a weekend? It's fun if you're into some wrench time, and it's not that hard really. Just read up on all the install write ups and you'll be fine. That's just me though. I wouldn't pay more than $350 for a cam/springs install.

Yeah, do it yourself. My first time it took about 10 hours over two nights, triple checking everything, being cautious. Next time took 4 hours, from turning off the ignition to starting it back up.

Another vote for do it yourself ... lots of good experience, plus you know it was done right. As others have said its really not very hard at all. Set a weekend aside, and you'll be fine.

$1,200... thats nuts.

Give Mikey at Rapid Motorsports a call. He knows what he is doing and is very reasonable on the price. (610)-404-7979.

Later,

Mike

do it yourself, I've done three, they aren't hard at all. First time I did it with hardly any knowledge of it, just followed directions I found online.

Do it yourself. While you have the cover off you might as well upgrade the timing chain and oil pump to a double row adjustable set and ported pump. These items aren't that expensive and well worth it since the timing cover will already be off. Be careful with the oil pickup tube bolt. Put a few rags between the front of the oil pan and the block to keep it from dropping into the pan in case you drop it during reinstallation. The rocker bolts have locktite under the their builtin flat washer. This makes them hard to break loose, but once you break the seal of the locktite they come out the rest of the way quite easily. For $1200 you could go out and buy all the tools you need and the parts for the upgrade and still have money left over.

I don't see how anybody could do it better then anyone else. It is either install properly or not.
