Default LS6 Firehawk.. What cam?

I just got a 2000 Hawk/ LS6 Engine, 6 speed. It has the FAST intake and FAST 90mm TB. I want a bigger cam. Im new to the LS stuff. Took the car out and it ran 12.6s at 111, 2.2 60 ft. spinning with 15lbs of air in the MTs. Track was bad.. Id like to get into the 11s on the motor. Nitrous can take car of the rest. Iv looked around and the G5X3 cought my eye. I cant really find much about it. Iv looked at all kinds of Cams but Im afraid Ill loose the low end with the G5X3. Is that true? My plans are Cam to go with the 243 Heads/ Intake, Put long tubes on it, and maybe 3;73 or 4:11s..I want to keep the car streetable but it want it to run and sound mean. I really cant hear the cam thats in it now..sounds weak..

What are your current cam specs? With a decent set of heads, headers and a good tune you don't need a huge cam to hit 11's. A nice under the curve cam will get you there.

Predator Z is a member on here who is VERY good with spec'ing out a cam for YOUR combo for what you want.
PM him, and tell him everything you want. and what your mods or future mods are.

Just to throw this out there but I ran a G5X3 on a 112 LSA ( in case you're wondering 234/242 .598 .610 112+4) in my 01 SS for quite some time. I couldn't have been happier with it. Great drive-ability and about the "wildest" I'd go for a large cam only choice. As long as you have a competent tuner, you will be happy.

Setup: QTP long tubes, lid, X3 cam, clutch and DRs and the car went a best of 12.3 @ 117.

On the dyno, it put down 411/381 in good weather and in 110 degree conditions, it did 406/372.

If you're planning on running a gear, be it 3.73's or 4.10's, you'll be happy as a fat kid in a candy store! Especially considering you have an LS6 motor (243 heads > 241 heads) and you've already got an LS6 intake. Car should make some good power.

Good luck!

The 228/232 cam grind I use makes 410-415 rwhp in LS1 engines and 420-428 rwhp in LS6 engines. Drives nearly stock, and power from 2K-6800.

Just an FYI. You don't need anything in the 240 duration to make power

223Hawk, PM Predator Z.... I bet you he will know a cam that will drive like stock (i.e. no cam surge) but will make stupid killer power on the rollers and kick every off the self grind cam on the track.
What do you have to loose? He does not charge for his custom specs...

You should be able to run an 11 second pass n/a with the ls6 engine with full bolt ons if you can drive it.

You get some good tires, get the launch down at least around 1.9 60s & you should be runnin low 12s with your current setup. I know a guy with an 03 Z06 that ran 11.7s stock with DRs. You have the same engine, just a lil more weight & different gearing. You wont need much of a cam to be in the 11s. You def. want LTs, I like my 3.73s but a lot of M6 guys favor the 4.10s. I had my launch down pretty good, launching at 3500-4000 rpms, I was runnin consistent 1.9s. I just installed my cam so now I gotta find the sweet spot for launching the car again. What rpm are you launching at?

With 16lbs of air in the mickey ts..(315/35/17) lauching at 2200-2400, but on the street I can drop it at 3 all day and somewhat hook if I turn them over a little bit?? Bad track...Tried just turning them over a bit, and then geting them really hot..doesnt matter same. I tryed a lot of air and then no air..nothing really changes..I did get a 2.0 60ft, 20lbs and just geting the water off..and leaving at around 21-22..spun a little..not bad though..but missed 3rd..lol and went 12.8s at 109 lol
