Default Is it faster to drop subframe to remove engine on a lift?

Anyone ever dropped the subframe to remove an engine?? Ive got to do a complete heads/cam/everything to a new t/a and i was wondering if it would be quicker for me to unbolt the entire subframe and remove everything out the bottom.

Yes no?? whats the quickest way to do it? any problems?

That's the way GM does it. On a lift you can have it out in 2 hours

Done it on my car many times - takes about an hour and half and is well worth it. Took about another 4 hours or so to complete the head swap. And that was with BSing and all. Much nicer and knuckle friendly when the engine is out of the car.

Dropped the sub on my 98 WS6 using a friend's lift. Not knowing the specifics, but we had an idea what to do, on how to do it and doing a little BS's the entire time, we had it down in 1hr 45min. I hear some do it in around 1 hour!

Personnally, I think it would take me 1 hr to remove the header bolts and the bell-housing bolts doing it the "old" way....

Rumors are MORE Performance a sponsor is so adept at doing it that way they can drop on in ~30 minutes or less. I think they been doing it that way for years.

easiest to do it out the bottom. i did it in my garage with only a jack and jackstands in like 2.5 hrs. and it was my first time to ever do it. with a lift, all you have to do is disconnect everythjing and just lift the car. much easier than out the top i would think.

This was posted a long time ago about how to remove an engine an 99% said they pulled them out the top the average time was @5 hrs to get it out. I have only pulled them out the bottom every time and I can do it in @ 1hr or so but everyone called on me not in that way but a lot of people were wanting specifics ETC... I just couldn't believe they would pull them out the top! My point is I am glad there are more people that are realizing that GM puts them in that way and that is the easiest way to get them out and the fastest. Good luck on your project AIDAN!

Someone needs to do a fairly thorough write-up on how to drop them from the bottom

Yes, I couldn't agree more. I remember the thread a while back. Inspector12 was in that thread mentioning he may write something up. Inspector12 have you written something up and I missed it? Not trying to bug you or anything...

Someone who has dropped the engine out the bottom in their garage, PLEASE post a writeup. There are a lot of people that would like to see this.

Well not everyone has air tools and a lift. I pull mine out the top. Took about 3.5 hours to pull the motor and trans withot air tools by myself. Why don't we just have a competition on this instead of drag racing
