Matching a Streetsweeper cam with the correct head
I am trying to do my research on how to get my 98 LS1 as close to the +450rwhp range as possible.
I think the streetsweeper cam will help me get there, as well as maintain streetability, but at the same time still providing good power all over the rev range.
The car will also be used as a road coarse track car, in addition to be driven on the street. Would the standard streetsweeper 236/240 cam or the streetsweeper HT 228/232 cam be better suited for my needs? Sorry, I have just started trying to learn about the int/exh numbers for cams, and don't really know how to interpret everything yet.
As far as heads goes, it seems like the AFR 205s are a popular choice. However, are there any other options out there that could possibly do almost as good of a job, but for a lower price?

I've got CNC ported 241s and will soon be rebuilding my engine with a streetsweeper 228/232. I should be close to 450 at the wheels, I think. I was already trapping close to 119 with a TR224 before on a mail order tune. If you want power throughout your powerband, get the smaller of the two. Remember, you're only feeding 346 cubic inches. A big cam will be a dog down low and not much fun to drive. I'd say a set of CNC ported 243 heads milled to give you about 11:1 compression plus the 228/232 should easily give you 450 at the wheels. No need to spend the money on AFRs.

Contact Ed at FTI, he can recommend a head since the Street Sweeper is his cam design. I know he recommends the AFR's but it may also depend on what you are looking for. He also has other street sweepers, we installed a 220/224 in a friends car and it worked out very well and may better fit what your are looking for on the track coming out of corners.

Looks like I will have to contact a vendor/sponsor who carries everything I am looking for, in order to optimize the package and possibly give me a group discount/purchase on all of the items.
I may be looking at getting a FAST 92/92 intake and TB (possibly get them further ported as well), Streetsweeper-ht cam, afr 205 heads (haven't decided on this yet), and I need to look at possible local tuners if there are any.

Here is a combo New Era put together.
1)Stock baseline run 329whp/337wtq
2)Headers, SS-HT Cam, SLP Catted Headers 409whp/386wtq
3)Heads and FAST 92 intake 452whp/434wtq
"This is with Ed's SSHT (228/232) cam and ET 215 CC heads with an unported FAST 92 intake , the choker is that it has SLP headers with cats but it is a well matched street combo , the below graph shows when we dynoed it stock (with borla exhaust) and then added the SSHT cam with full bolt ons , then when we added the ET 215 cc heads with the FAST 92 intake."

Any of his cams are really good. They make great tq. I hand ported a set of 241s kept the stock valve job and valves, really buget. And out them on car car for a little while and it mad 466whp/410wtq, and I have a s60, gears heavy DR and clutch. With my stock heads its still 415-420whp with good tq and traps low 120s

Yea, my cam is just with the stock 243s, and Mike (guy who actually came up with the grinds) is telling me that at our track I should be around 118 traps or so. The same cam in a z28 with a Lid, LTs, and stock 241s w/ ls6 intake trapped 115. No gears, no real weight reduction (back seats only, for his dogs). Track is 3075 ft above sea level, let alone other factors.

What's the highest compression you can typically run on a stock bottom end, using 91 octane? I figure the people who I will be purchasing these parts will know all of this, but it's also nice to just cross reference things, to just know for myself personally.
