Default Daily Driver cam with some track time.

I've been thinking of cams lately to get for my Z28, and am leaning toward the Torquer 2 or even a .588 228 112 lsa cam, but not sure if these are good for a DD of for my mods. I'd like some serious cam lope, but don't want to have to rev it to 6K to get it to move. I'll be using stock heads for now, and it will mostly be a DD, with occasional 1/4 trips. 11.5's are my goal without spray.

If you want to go 1150s Id go bigger than that 228 cam. Just about any cam other than stock is going to have to go past 6k, probably closer to 6500+.

the Torquer V.2 u mentioned would be a great DD cam, i had it before switching to a MS4. get the 112 it'll have a nice lope. at the track i was spinning it to 6.5K RPM since thats where my powerband peeked

Streets 111+3 will LOPE for you better than a 112 . . . when tuned properly.

Lets not focus on the LSA and what not for "lope" or power for that matter... Lobe seperation is just a piece of the puzzle when it comes to cams and it surely isn't a "large" one either.

OP, I'd suggest Geoff (former Co-founder of Thunder racing, and also their cam designer and tuner) from Engine Power Systems 222/226 cam. It's supposed to be a step above the TR224, which as we all know is a proven performer both on the street as well as on the track.

Here's a link: http://www.engpwrsys.com/index.php?a...od&productId=8

I'd suggest contacting him for more information. Also, you can make any cammed car lope. Just lower the idle

I got the patriot 226/226 cam, 112 lsa, it lopes like a huge cam and is as DD-able as it gets, my car idles @800rpm on a mail order map,
It starts to work under 3k-rpm and feels simular to the stock cam but it comes alive above 4k

My 224 with a 3200 stall basically drives as stock as you could ask for. It pulls to redline great with pretty much power available everywhere. It typically runs twelve flats but I know an eleven is coming soon.

am running a 232/238 600/600 109 LSA and it is a good daily driver, has hell of a lope, and a 3400 stall. I run that thing daily on the streets and go to the track 1ce a month running 11.9@114 with a 1.87 60ft on street tires. Oh I shift at 6500 rpm. You can not get a a cam that is not stock and shift below 6000. Unless your driving her like my grandma drives her toyota.

cam in sig, lopes very good (5 degrees of overlap) and drives smooth.

230/236 612/607 on 114 + 2

flat torque curve too, 300lbs from 3400 to 6400

So, yes, focusing on lope is one of the goals.

A low 230's cam is a good choice for a DD... low LSA for lope. However a low 230's cam with your mods probably won't net you 11.5's... that's going to be the hardest part of your goal. Many other variable factor in then just the cam... seeing as you don't have many supporting mods it'll be a stretch... but not impossible...

I am running a custom cam and it is great on the street. I felt no loss in torque and it is extremely streetable. There is very minimal surging when you are really low in the rpms and under a good load, but it is barely even noticeable. It also is really choppy, or at least to me it is. Makes unbelievable power throught the whole band. Its a 228/234 .588 .598 112+2

228R all the way, great cam in an auto pulls like crazy with a stall. Put the same one in last night in my m6 SS and its great even with 3.42 gears, will get even better with 3.73s or 4.10s.

I remember HD doing it with a TR224 quite a few years ago. Hit up EFA and post the question. You don't need to go big to get those numbers.

Lope can be obtained on a stock cam FFS. It's not a goal, its just something he'd like as an added benefit, like most. He said DD, power to go 11's and not wanting to run it to the moon as far as RPM is concerned. Anyone who says to get a cam on XXX LSA simply because of wanting the "loping" sound shouldn't be giving cam advice, sorry. I don't mean it as a personal insult either, it's just that the LSA is part of a much larger equation than XXX LSA is good for X amount of RPM and LOPE. When you change the LSA you change the entire set of valve events.

It doesn't take a big cam to do any of that, including "lope".

OP, if you are serious about what you're asking for, don't ask a question like this on an internet message board, hoping for the best results. Look to our sponsors on the right, like EPS who I mentioned earlier and give them what you're looking for, what your combo consists of and go from there. Hell, PM Patrick G and have him suggest something for you.

Yes sir +1

Edit -

OP, I'd suggest throwing a LS6 intake into that combo of yours to get the most of what you're looking to obtain.
