Default cam @ 130,000 plus miles???

Hey guys i got a 2000 trans am with 130,000 plus miles and have all of the basic bolt ons so natually i want a little more with out building the motor and spending a lot. its a a4 and i want to use the stock stall for daily driving. So how big of a cam can i go with a stock stall. And when i do this cam im going to do the cam package with the new springs and rods also a timing Chane with a oil pump. Do you think that the motor will hold or go bang?
Thanks,
Ray

A 224 cam is about as big as I would go on a stock converter. But you will more than likely gain more from a higher stall converter. You can get a 3600 and still be very street friendly. If the motor has been maintained properly there is no reason to worry about putting a cam in it.

As for the mileage, I wouldn't be concerned. I do 150K+ cam installs quite often.

On a stock converter, I've used a 224/228 XE-R 114 with great results. With a decent tune it drives just fine on a stock converter, and makes a tad more power than the standard 224/224.

160,000 on my car when we tore it down had the heads mildly worked and added a G5X3.
I made 405RWHP on a loaded dyno with a 4000 converter cam only.

These cars when maintsined properly last a long, long time

224/228 cam is exc3ellant for overall drivability and power on a mild or stock converter

With a 3200 you'll want something that makes good midrange power to compliment the converter. The 224/228 that was recommended above is still a great cam for that setup. I've actually swapped out that cam for a bigger grind on a 3000 stalled car, and it lost power and went slower in the 1/8 mile.

I wouldn't do ANYTHING bigger than 230 degrees of duration in an automatic that's daily driven, and keep it on a 113-114 LSA for better driveability and ease to tune. Been there, and done it lots of times.

So would you recommend the 224/228 cam on 113 or 114 lsa to make good power.

i have a 3600 and use a 230/236 cam on a 114 LSA, its very easy to drive, but for max effort drag racing i think a 4-4200 would be better.

anyways something in the high 220's low 230's would be nice.
