New Mobil 1 Syn To Debut In Spring 04
I READ NEWS RELEASE ABOUT A NEW SYNTHETIC FROM MOBIL1 THAT IS SUPPOSED TO BE AVAILABLE IN SPRING 04. IT IS GOING TO BE 0-30W. THAT'S RIGHT 0-30. WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK? THE ARTICLE SAID IT WAS DESIGNED FOR HIGH-PERFORMANCE ENGINES & BLAH-BLAH. BUT, IS ZERO WEIGHT GOOD FOR THE LONGEVITY OF AN LS1. IF SO, I'M SOLD. I DON'T POST THE WHOLE ARTICLE HERE, AND I'M NOT SURE IF U GUYS ALREADY KNOW ABOUT THIS STUFF OR NOT. GIMME FEEDBACK.

Don't worry about the "0" part. That is what the oil is like when it's cold. Once the oil is up to normal running temp, it's actually a smidge thicker than their 5W30 or their 10W30.
M1 is bringing out two new oils, one is a "racing" type oil and the other one is something like a 5W40 truck/SUV oil.

Don't be afraid of a 0w30 oil. The 0w is simply the rating of it's cold cranking ability, not it's thickness when hot. Look at it's viscosity at 100C for the determining factor.
I'm running a 0w30 oil right now with excellent results. It's got a very thick viscosity at 100C of 12.2cst, so it protects better than most other 5w30s and 10w30s, which generally speaking are closer to 10cst at 100C.
I suspect this new Mobil 1 0w30R will have a viscosity close to 12cst, making it much better than their current 0w30, 5w30 and 10w30, all of which are only 10cst, and don't tend to show the best oil analysis results for the LS1 (which really does like an oil of around 12cst)

Hey i've Heard That people running 0W-30 or whatever.... have had problems with the oil draining out of the lifters if the car has sat for a few days unstarted..because the oil's viscosity is so thin at room temperature that it leaks out...and then of course when you start it up...you get lifter clatter...that can't be good.....does anyone else have these sort of problems running 0 weight oil?

If you look at the 40C viscosity of most 0w30 oils they aren't much different than 10w30, it's when it gets colder that the 0w30 ends up not being as thick.
My oil analysis results using German Castrol 0w30 are far superior to any of my previous results using 10w30 and 5w30 oils.
