LQ9 (035) v.s. LQ4 (317) cylinder head
I have done a search and found threads on the above topic but nobody offered concrete proof either way. Obviously the heads are not NOT the same as different casting numbers were used. Any of the cylinder head shops, please feel free to comment.
Everyone says that the 035 and 317 are the same while also stating that the 035 flows the same as the LS6 casting. Obviously this also states that the 317 (LQ4) also does. However, someone on here posted the flow numbers of the LS1, LS6 and LQ4 and the LQ4 did NOT flow the same as the LS6. This would indicate that the LQ9(035)
does NOT flow the same as the LS6 also.
Anybody??

TTT for you...
I have seen this argued before, but no one seemed to know for sure in that specific disscussion. I am interested in seeing some flow numbers between the two, stock as well as Stage 1 and 2 porting.
Maybe some of the company reps can help us out here.

I have been trying to locate some more specific information on the differences on these heads as well. Our Escalade has the 035 castings on it and I am looking to supercharge it. At one point I was told the CC are different between the 035 and 317 castings as well. Either way, I hope somebody with a flow bench and both heads sitting on a bench chimes in.

I've been following this as well. According to what Valvegod has said when asked, the LQ4 and LQ9 head castings are identical (aka, 317). The difference between the two engines is in the bottom end.

Hmmmmm then I am still at a loss as to why GM would change the casting number.

LQ4 vs LQ9
If you look up in GM parts, the 035 casting reflects the head part number that is used on the CNG/LPG head for 2003. the diff. is the harndened valve seats. Both the 317 and 035 have been found on both LQ4 and LQ9. GM always gives a different casting number for a different process.
Only difference on an LQ4 vs LQ9 is the manufacture of the rods, and flat top vs dished piston on the LQ4. Both use the same cam etc.
035 Die cast
317 Sand cast
Best regards,
