all right i have an 04 GTO, and im planning on putting in a cam with a set of heads, i was going to do 243's but a friend of mine said that porting my stock heads will be a better idea, but i eventually plan on getting a ported set of 243's. he said also that my cam that im going to put in will not be big enough for 243's. its a TSP 233/239 cam with 114 lsa. and then another friend of mine tells me that he is a fucktard and that 243's will be fine. im not sure which way to go and i thought i should get a 3rd party opinion. thanks!

Try to find some 799 heads...same as LS2 243s, they are usually a lot cheaper. I bought some with valve covers and rocker arms for $200, sold the covers and arms for $80, and now only have $120 in some awesome heads

midge,
To corrupt an old phrase: "Friends don't let friends design engines."
One of your friends is heading the right way. If he called your other friend a "fucktard" he was astute.
243s are the way to go. Depending on your budget, a great valve job and some milling to get more compression will make a big improvement over LS1 heads...even some ported ones.
Remember that better flowing heads require less cam, not more. The cam you mentioned sounds too big to me for a driver with the mods you suggested.
You need to find the right H/C guy. You can then make him a "friend" on Facebook.

Good luck.

what would be the outcome of that cam with a set of ported 243's?

Well with 243's you will bump compression up half a point, more potential in the 243's for porting. They will make much more overall power. I've looked at quite a few benchflows comparing the two non-ported, and the 243's flowed on average 13cfm more @ .550 lift. You could port the 241's out around 11-13 cfm more but machine work would cost you the same as the 243 heads themselves. Not to mention, you would miss out on the CR bump.
