Thumpr Cam?

Thumpr Cam?
I have been lookin at this cam for that old school sound and great drivability that it's suppose to have. its the 219/233 .553 .536 109. I talked to TR about the cheaTR cam vs. the thumpr, and the tech suggested the thumpr for the sound junkies, cheaTR for something stealthy. The tech continued to say both cams will make similar power and driveability is like stock for both. Problem is I cant find any info on power gains or track/dyno numbers on either of these cams?

same magazine dynoed that cam in the 5.3 and supposedly dynoed 9x somethin horsepower gain. I forget the link, but I'm sure someone can post it up or luse the search...

Thanks, but I have used the search and read all the stickies, along time ago for that matter lol. I spend most my time reading and not posting. the only thing I found was a mod back in 05 installed the cheatr cam w/ prc 2.5 5.3 heads and made 400whp, with a bit left in the tune and setup. So Im assuming since TR said the thumpr cam would make the same power, I need some ported 243's or 5.3 heads to hit 400whp. I thought maybe some people could chime in that has current info on the cam/setup.

You definately want compression with such a low LSA, so you may be better off with those 5.3 heads milled... Be sure you watch your PTV clearance if you go with those heads, though!

yea but the 109 lsa helps the low lift. If this cam was on a 114 I would not even **** with it. Im very aware of the compression of the ls1, I was throwing rough numbers out there. It's obvious this cam should work since it was groung for a ls engine. im just not interested in a big lift cam with a wide lsa to help it idle. I want a mid lift cam, low duration, tight lsa to bring the power in fast.

That 109 is gonna slober on itself no doubt about that, but I don't think the compression your losing with the overlap and the lack of at least .550 lift or better is going to be even mildly impressive. There are tons of cams out there that sound just like an old school muscle car, also a lot of other components that have to work together in order to achieve a good crisp sound, compression ratio, headers, exhaust, engine timing. Please don't just try to make the car sound good with a cam and end up with a horrible running camaro that has a good sounding idle.

^Trust me Im not going to. I have always modded cars very tastefully. just asking for info about this cam, it's not like I bought it lol. I had a lt1 for 9yrs before I sold it to my brother a month ago. My ol 383 had a custom grind 114 lsa cam and all the guys over there swear by a 109-110 lsa cam for na. If the thumpr cam is a turd I wont get it, but why would a sponsor recomend it over one of thier own grinds? Also the sponsor said I could run it with my 1.85 rockers to get lift up. Heck with it Ill just get a custom grind.

I have the middle size thumper in a LS2 in my truck. I'm here to tell you these cams kick ***. Don't try to predict them from the LSA and lift, Comp spent a lot of time getting the mix right. Mine sounds awesome, idles and cranks great, good street manners, good bottom end and pulls hard past 6800 with 918 springs. I have been 7.44 in the 1/8 with my 4200lb. truck on stock street tires. Expecting it to go in the 11's thru the 1/4. It likes N2O also...go figure that!

While that Thumpr Cam has an interesting combination of valve events, a few observations about it.
That is quite an large intake/exhaust split. I am making an assumption that split would shine more on autos with a more restrictive exhaust. The most I can figure is that it has a pretty early IVC..~36 degrees. I think the stock LS1 cam is ~32.
What it does seem to have is ample overlap..~8 degrees. Hey I am not saying that cam would not work, but I would want to do more research on it. Perhaps the first thing I would ponder is whether you can get that same overlap (rumble) and maximize the rpm range to better suit your needs.
I always liked the TQ curves of the LS1 GM ASA Cam, which for a lower lift cam runs on a 228/236 110LSA .525/.525 lift.
Hey it is an interesting concept, and I like TQ, but I wonder if it holds up power-wise over 6000 rpms.
I could not find any LS1 dyno graphs on it also. Standard disclaimer..I did just a quick DCR/valve event calculation on it. I am not exactly sure of their precise lobe profile, so please double-check my work.
Perhaps one of the more enlightened cam experts can further educate us.

put it and post the dyno graph in the dyno section with idle and revving clip and a wot pass from a car driving next to you people will have info about it next time ^_^ but do a dyno before it also to see how much you gained.

if you want the old school sound, by a gen I SBC with a big cam in it.
thats a new cam really, havent seen too many, if anybody run it. like others said, even stock ls1 heads love to flow, so take advantage of it and get a cam with some more lift, and alot more duration on the intake side. my vote, as always is go custom grind. cant go wrong. you can get it to idle how you want.
