Default Need a good cam to get over 400+ hp

I know I am asking for to much but I would like to know if I need to get a custom grind or an off the self type cam for my car. Its a 98 ls1 m6 stock bottom, intake. What would be a basic list of stuff that I would need for a cam swap? My goals are really dont matter about street manners plus I go to the track every tuesday. I want to at least get over 400hp just from a cam. Does anybody have good deals on cam packages?

Your going to need exhaust first off (very important if not you'll choke the engine), then manifold, if you have an LS6 good or a FAST 78. A good intake Vararam, 243 heads and a 232/234 600/600 110LSA cam and your around 430 in an MS6 and do not forget a ZO6 MAF (04) with a good tune. You also might need a catch can if your running a high compression 11:1 and higher with 59cc chambers. I am sure more people will chime in.

Your going to need a LS6 intake,Long Tube Headers, your choice of cat back or duals from TSP,also your exhuast needs to be 3",then a cam with new springs and rods.Go to www.texasspeed.com there you will find everything you need. And thats should put you at 400.Then you could always spray it and do more.Or just forget about the cam now and put on a LS6 intake and a 125shot.<<<this is the cheapest route

Well I forgot to mention that I have already some of the things that you guys mention like pacesetter lt headers, ported stock tb, 3inch piping all the way back, 3inch cat back. do you guys think I can get there with cam and intake with my stock heads there are 806's then if I get my hands on some 243's I can just switch stuff over

You can get to 400 RWHP with headers, intake, a cam and a good tune with stock heads. I made 407 RWHP with a Texas Speed Torquer cam (1st version) back a few years ago...if memory serves the specs were 233/233 .595/.595 112 LSA...

Get the tsunami cam from texas speed and a ls6 intake and you will be close with stock heads. My buddy has a 98 with 853 heads, a similar cam to the tsunami, ls6 intake and 4.10 gears, put down 388 hp on a dynojet.

That is a little too much cam for a 346 IMO. I know people run them, but to each his own.

You can get over 400rwhp with all the supporting mods and stock heads with a Futral cam (F11 and up) without a doubt. I did it on an A4.

Bigger is not always better. Look for results on the El Torro cam by PredatorZ, 230/230 duration can make lots of power at useable rpms. Most of the cams you are looking at make power above what is generally considered safe on your 98 shortblock. Any modification can shorten the life expectancy of you engine, but camming your engine to make power up to 7000 rpm's will take it's toll much sooner.

LSA stands for Lobe Separation Angle, and is one of the primary things that determines where the valve events fall. The Intake Lobe Centerline and the amount of overlap in the cam are two of the major ones. Tweaking the valve events to get the cam to do what the engine wants is key to making power without poor street manners.
