Default Head/Cam for 427ci Truck

I am looking for H/C recommendation for LQ9 427ci. It's 2003 4x4 A4 RCSB. I prefer to stay with truck intake or swap to truck L92 intake to avoid changing truck accessory drives.

It dynoed 400rwhp/450rwtq on dynojet using 64cc TFS215 heads, TR224 and LQ9 intake through 4L60E and stock TC.

It peaked at 5000 rpm.

Are my numbers too low? What is holding it, heads, cam or intake?

Is it possible to get 500rwhp/500rwtq from h/c swap.

I've got complete L92 intake with 90mm TB and DBW adapter harness.

That small cam is holding it back for sure, and im sure that truck intake is too.

A 224 cam is way mild for a 346" application, let along a 427" one, lol.

Whats the major uses for the truck?

It is for daily use and some road races with some slow goats.

For daily use, a cam a couple steps up would help power immensely. You could even get someone to custom spec one for you, being a DD and big inches.

That thing put down some torque, didnt it!

i highly recommend a custom grind cam for a 427. youre gonna want something up in the 24x's probably. a 224 in a 427 is like worse than a stock cam in a 346 but it does prove a point that its combo > big cam. great heads will help any cam make good power, but not the reverse.

Who's most knowledgable with custom camshafts for L92 heads/L92 intake setup? I read that L92 heads are sensitive to cam choice. Some camshats could do worse with L92 heads.

Truck as is pulls very hard. No traction in 1st and 2nd gears.

You are on the right track switching to the L92 stuff.
I think foryou to get to 500/500, you are going to have to give up low speed driveability and takeoff power. It could help your tire spinning problem though.

On another note, we are currently in the process of having an L92 intake manifold ported by Land Speed development. I will post up A-B results when I get the manifold back. Should be next week sometime.

there are alot of different theories going around on the L92 setups. some people say close split, some say mild and some say 12*+ of spl (duarion were talking). Pat G has seemed to have pretty good results, but others have as weel, just look around. Pat had a thread on L92s on an LS2 i beileve and they made great power on stock cubes. lok around for it in the dyno results section.

as for the intake problem:

probably going to have to give up some good low end, but when making power in a truck, its almost a given, unless you get the *perfect* setup.

Actually, the easiest fix for this whole deal would be a TVS 2300. Then you would have all the torque plus the horsepower as well!!!

Op look at my thumpr cam thread, seems to be a more popular cam in the truck crowd. The guy with the red silverado beats an lpe supercharged vette that put down 490whp(supposedly), that was with stock 317's/ 6.0 ls2 block, running the ***** thumpr cam!

What's the spec of the thumper? It might be small for 427ci!

unless u dont care about having any low end grunt, u could get a 235-235 600.600 on a 111. buddys truck has that cam on some ls6 heads in his 6.0 and he is dayum quick, almost as quick as me... i have a l92 and my cam was speced by bullet , my truck ran a 12.44 this past weekend spinning , 1 wheel peel ftw!
