Default 400 rwhp, is it possible?

After reading these boards for a while I'm starting to wonder if my friends car really produces 400 rwhp. He has borla exhaust, headers, and intake. I asked him if the car is cammed and he said no. Is it possible to make 400 rwhp with bolt ons like that? He drives a 99 camaro. I'm starting to think I miss heard him and its 'only' got 400 fwhp

No, no way he is producing those numbers with bolt-ons. More like 350whp.

That is probably pretty close - you may have answered your own question.

370 is the highest I've seen from a bolt-on LS1. 400 isn't even close to possible.

I also go with the 400FWHP.

He might have the most powerful bolt on F body if he's making 400 to the wheels

Your friend is pulling your leg. Headers and intake only, wont come close to 400hp especially on an "old *** 99 camaro".
If thats the case, take a ride in his car, look for a stock c5zo6 (360rwhp) and race it. The camaro will lose because of alot of things, mainly because it doesnt have a 400rwhp. Cam it and the result might be different.

Your friend is lying. 400rwhp is impossible without a cam. Hell, there many people with smaller to midsize cams that don't hit 400 to the wheels.

its possible with a real friendly dyno

my car made 380 rwhp on a dyno pack and then 330 rwhp on a mustang dyno and this was with just bolt ons with a 9' rear end

so with some amazing bolt ons and a real happy dyno pack he could have made those # but i guarantee that it only puts down 350 rwhp at the most, on a accurate dyno

Prior to LT's, y-pipe and tune my car dynoed 309rwhp. After the install and tune it was 333rwhp. That's with the stock LS6 intake, LT's, catted y-pipe, magnaflow, and a tune. I doubt his is anywhere near 400 to the rears.

The car I bought a few weeks ago made 348rwhp. That is a 2001 WS.6 with LT Headers, ORY, 3" Hooker Catback, SLP CAI, LID, Ported MAF, 160 thermo, 3.42s, Speed Inc Tune(runnin' rich). Maybe 425 at the crank is possible?
The 99s didn't even come with the goodies the 01-02s did so that is working against him right there as far as power additions. I'd ask him for the dyno sheet or just take him to one, lol.

that means he has over 500 in the motor and there is no way in hell he did that with bolt ons.

I would be surpised if he made 350 with what you said he had, has he even had a good tune? if not he is blowing smoke and he is probably under the age of 21 and thinks he has a fast car

stock i was 309rwhp and 334rwtq. i had the cam package, lt's, and a custom exhaust,160* thermo stat.tb bypass, and polished tb. i am still running the ls6 intake and the stock heads. after 21 back to back dyno pulls on a dynojet dyno i ended up with 399 rwhp and 389rwtq. alot of people have told me that i should not have this much either, but i do. i had a bad maf sensor so that is why all the pulls. i was there and all they did was work with the air fuel.
and they also made my stock clutch start slipping.

your comparing a 3600lb car to a 3200lb car. It takes 400whp in a camaro to run with a 360whp c5 zo6.

i bet he is talking about crank hp, a lot of people will just add the numbers that their mod companies say they will add to the factory rating to get numbers, nothing realistic..when i talk to people like that who ask me my hp i always say prolly over 500 because they will always assume crank, whereas if im talking to someone who knows that their talking about i'll say prolly a bit over 400whp...

yeah those numbers dont seem right . back in the day we pulled my ride with just mac duals stock ls1 intake with one of bo's famous tbs and a lid . through an m6 we got 344rwhp . still not bad with just a few mods . add a cam and a ls6 or better intake and it should be close to 4 .
