Default Build possibilities with an LS1 block? Big cubes?

I'm picking up a complete LS1 motor for $500 from a friend. I'm wanting to either build the motor or just do a fresh rebuild and drop it in my Sonoma. I always see a lot of people doing builds with the 6.0 blocks and so on. Are the LS1 blocks OK to do a bigger cubic inch build with? and how big can you go? What would some of you recommend? Because if i don't put it in my Sonoma then i'm going to put it in my camaro, which means i want to build it up.

Price isn't really an issue but i'm not going to drop 10k on it haha. But i would like to stay under $5k. I had plans of doing a forged LS1 and putting a D1SC on it. But i'm just looking for some more info and seggestions, I'd like to go bigger cubes and see some good numbers N/A though.

I've got a 427ci LS6 resleeved block from way back in 2002, its still running great with 125,000+ miles. The LS1 block is the same damn thing.....

The LS1 block, resleeved, is a beast....just like any other (LS2, LS3, LS7).

Have it done right and you can pound it with 1,000 RWHP no problem at all.

But with a D1SC, resleeve it and do a 383/402/408 cube, it'll be better than building a big cube engine like a 427+.

If you're gonna stay N/A, I know you can do a 436ci and probably go to a 441ci with no issues. If the new 5.8" long Darton sleeves will work in an LS1 block....you can build a 454ci no problem (4.185 bore x 4.125 stroke).

In your budget a 383 would be a good way to go. OR I'd re-sleeve it and go big for more money.

If you really feel the need to go SUPER big they make SUPERDECK adapaters that allow you to go into the 500ci it is basicly a plate that increases the deck height, but with this mod you will be looking at modifying alot of other parts as well. If you dont want to re sleeve it go with a forged 383 you can make 500hp fairly easy.

if you re sleeve it you might as well atleast take it to 427 and get you some ls7 or l92 heads.
