Default Valve springs for my cam swap

236/242 .580/.590 with 112 LSA

School me here, what would be a good spring to go with?

Motor is stock, with a PP Typhoon intake. It is now a 6-spd car.

My oil pump is going south, so figure it is time to take care of the intake and cam swap.

I have a set of springs that i just took of that will hold up to a 609 lift cam. I had it on my 236/236 585/585 @ 112 LSA cam. I up graded to a 239/242 643/609 @111 LSA cam so i needed to go with the PRC Gold double springs. If you're interested in my old springs, we'll work something out. They only have about 10,000 miles on them (mostly highway). I just took them off last weekend.

Isn't that kind of overkill with a .580/.590 lift

In some's opinion yes. I run a single spring on my tr-224 with .564 lift. But I believe 918s until just recently were only good to .600. Now I believe they say .625 but thats under optimal conditions. I say be safe, not sorry.

Interesting... 242* at .050" tappet lift with .590" gross lift... Looks like a square lobe that actually needs more spring rate than what most people would think.

I'd stick with something that has been proven under race conditions. Which is what I did.

Comp Cams - 925-16

Tested for a year in the LS-engine Nascar series (ASA). These were the spec valve springs, and they performed great.

They also have 926-16 which can handle a bit more lift.

Looks like more spring pressure is a good thing in that lobes case.

Manley has a nice one. still a single spring, and will work with stock locks and retainers (but i would go TI retainers and their tool steel locks if it were me)
Springs are $200 for the set. A little pricey yes, but its an awesome single beehive spring made by manley. their new nextek design.

pressures are 150@ 1.8 355@1.200 max recommended lift is .600 coil bind at 1.085
a bit stiffer than the pac 1218.
