LS2 cam better than LS1 cam?
I have an LS1. My buddy just swapped his LS2 cam for a Thunder Racing cam. Is it an upgrade for me to switch to his cam/springs? Does that technically put my LS1 at a Z06 power? I'm just trying to hit 400hp, and I know my cam would be the determining factor here (LS6 intake, LT's, TD's, cold air intake). Thanks!

your guna have to throw some specs out there man. ls1 cams from the factory are pretty mild, 19x duration and .450 lift on the 00-02s iirc.
all in all, id say if your doing a cam swap do a cam swap, get a cam that is known to make good power, there's plenty of guys hitting 380-400rwhp with some off the shelf cams.
do some research in the dyno section and see what people are making.

LS2 cam has the same specs as `01 385 HP LS6 Cam
204/211 .525/.525 116 LSA
But like said above the Cam sensor was moved to the front timing cover on Gen IV engines. so the cams are not compatible.

The reason for the incompatibility is actually the lack of a reluctor ring on the rear of the LS2 cam. Generally speaking it "could" work, but only if you extended the cam position sensor wiring harness, got an LS2 timing set, LS2 cam position sensor, and LS2 front cover.
Most aftermarket cams have the reluctor and will work in either motor. It's only moving the stock LS2 cam that is a PITA.
Yeah....I did it....didn't know about the issue and ended up doing another swap a week later.
On the up side, when the car DID crank it ran GREAT!!! LMAO.

I wouldn't waste your time swapping to an LS2 cam. Like mentioned above, you would have to relocate the cam position to the front of the motor and IMO the gains aren't worth the labor for the swap. I would save up and get an aftermarket cam if you feel a cam is the next step for your project. The gains will be more noticeable and worthwhile even on a mild street cam. This time of year, there are all kinds of deals to be had on cams and cam packages!
Thanks!
