Baby cam question, So whats the LSA??? Cam guys come in
First off i bought a cam way to soon in the game and had no idea at the time what i was looking for in such a crital choice. Shame on me i know
Turns out it wasnt a bad cam after all once i got it in and tuned. i like it.
Problem one is dont know what the LSA is on it. i have the spec sheet and can go to cranes website but neither place lists and LSA? i will list the spec sheet at the end of the thread.
Problem two is how much power could i expect out of this cam?
I read the thread on smaller cams earlier and it has somewhat made me stop and want to try to figure out if i can make the big numbers i want with this one or if i should go to one like the MS4. (what i was leaning towards anyway to replace mine now) but after reading up for 6 months i wanna ask senior members and old timers what they would recommend.

So lets here it guys. Im planning on getting things rolling again next monday.

you want to put an 85mm TB on an intake manifold with a 75mm mouth?
and you're gonna put 4.11s in an auto!! you'll be turning 2500-3000rpm on the highway!! with cam and TDs? ouch!!!

i would say there are better cams out there now.

Yes i have 4.10s with an A4....and have driven it to florida about 2250rpms. its not bad as most would think. That wasnt the question i had but thanks for your input.
And there are better cams out there in your opinion? Other than what? I listed one i have a one i have looked at. you said neither about any.

There's no way you turned that RPM if they're 4.11's.. I have 3.50's and I'm around there/slightly higher when I'm cruising 70-75.. If you went 55 the whole way, then maaaaybe..
As for cam, I'd say if you've already had it tuned, then you should know what it's doing for you.. is it what you had in mind? Also, with unlimited dyno time, I'm sure you've had it on the rollers, so what number did it put out? Dyno sheet?
Obviously with a bigger cam, you're going to make more power up top. The trade off is usually low end grunt, but with a stall and not worried about driving manners, it probably wouldn't be all that bad for you.. If so, just up the stall speed. Also may want a fast intake to make the most of your setup, if you step up to a big cam.. And depending on how big of a shot you're going to be spraying, may want to think about going with a custom cut nitrous cam?

the lsa on that cam is 115. if you take the intake centerline (110) and the exhaust centerline (120). 110+120=230/2=115
since your wanting max performance i would look at the polluter, vindicator, t-rex, and g5x4. they are all similar. i would not go wider than 112 lsa. hope this helps

as for the cam...i just think there are better cams than the MS4 out there. its just such a high end screamer, i'd rather have mid range power.
some of the new lobes in the low/mid 23x range are making STUPID power these days, without having to spin to 7000rpm.

I was going to step up to an ms4 knowing that i will run better on the upper end with less under 3500, my cam now wont make as much power and that is why i was going to change. it is a great street cam with very good street manners but not the kind of power i wanting. i was just curious on what you guys thought about the setup.
by the way, im sure at 60mph im turning 2250rpms. ive driven the car and thats what it runs. 4.10s thats right where there all at.

true, i have seen great numbers out of the ms4 with really no complaints, with my driving style i do some highway but most of the time im in the upper RPM range anyway. and i only spin to 6200. you dont have to go to 7k to make power they can do it but make power at 6500 also.
i know it would leave 500 rpms worth of power on the table, but later i plan on going bigger.

I think im going to do the head swap, intake, and other mods and stick with this cam to see what i can make with it. i think the stall and spray will really make a big change in my car. plus heads, new intake and TB.
Im still open to suggestions about this setup,

So i should look for a cam similar or slighty bigger than mine with a 112 or lower LSA? i like the low end of what i have now and planned on doing some type of FI later but i dont ever see me comming up with that. lol

I would put a good set of ported heads and all the bolt ons with the current cam and see where you are at. You don't have the largest cam out there, but it has the potential to put down good HP and a sick torque curve. Buy the best set of heads that you can afford and worry about a cam swap later. Nobody has asked the most important cam question yet, which is what do you want to use the car for?

The question is important because all of those big cams will get spanked on the street by a well thought out combo with a small to mid sized cam. If you want a dragstrip car with a 4000 converter that sucks for cruising then get one of those big nastys. If you don't plan on being at the track every week and want a car you can drive around town with a 3000-3500 converter then stick to a small to mid sized cam. Everybody wants to go fast, but where do you want to go fast at is my question.
I have a MS4 in my car. Which I no longer drive on the street because to maximize its track performance I pulled the six speed for a TH350 w/ a 5500 stall. When I first went to the MS4 my car had stock heads and the six speed and 4.10 gears. I swapped out a TR230(230/224@0.050) and on the street the car was faster and way more fun with the TR230. The bottom end torque made all the difference.
I have a MS4 in my car. Which I no longer drive on the street because to maximize its track performance I pulled the six speed for a TH350 w/ a 5500 stall. When I first went to the MS4 my car had stock heads and the six speed and 4.10 gears. I swapped out a TR230(230/224@0.050) and on the street the car was faster and way more fun with the TR230. I am at the track every weekend. but you are correct, a well setup combo will kill big donky dick cams on the street all day long.
street manners are not important to me as i am young and can deal with that.
(insert young punk comments and such here)
i am planning on sticking with what i have now but would like a better low to mid end cam just a bigger size and around a 111 to 112 LSA. ill check more cam specs but will always take more recomendations.
