Default Update - Cam "Wish list" - Need your input

I've tried to read everything on here and the other boards to get info necessary for a cam choice. I would appreciate any help you can offer.

Here's my cam "wish list" for you to ponder and offer a recommendation
when you get a chance:

1. Good flat torque curve
2. Good low end power
3. Good power increase overall
4. Very slight to barely noticeable lope
5. Good idle and starting qualities
6. Emissions freindly
7. Good driveability, no surge.
8. Low valve train noise
9. Good solid setup, low/no maintenance issues.

So that's not asking too much is it?

Thanks for your feedback.

Heres mine. Thunder racing tr224 on a 114 lsa. With bolt ons. A good tune will get you what you are looking for. That is the key to being a daily driver and the valve train noise is not bad at all. With comp 918's springs

cant go wrong with the tr220 or tr224 cams. also might want to look into the mti stealth cams or c1/c2 cams.

Each item you put on your list will have an affect on other items, and all will affect the total HP you get to your rear wheels.

But I have to say the ones That JP listed are where you should start to read about each one, its pros and cons then GET one of them.

Good luck with your wish list.

The TR220 will be more Emissions friedly than the TR224, but if you can live with that go with the TR224

TR220 would be as big as I would go. The comp 216/220 on a 114 is a very good choice and makes a nice flat torque curve. Do a search for 216/220 and look for a post by a guy named "kp" he made some nice power in a 2000SS with a 216/220 and some macs. He later added some TEA 5.3 heads and made right at 400HP. I don't think kp worked any magic, he just had a well thought out combination. Your LT's with the 216/220 cam will be a very nice combination worth 375 rwhp and should pull over 350 rwtq from 3000 rpm to 5500 rpm. You should have a pretty flat curve as well.

The comp 216/220 is an oldie but a goodie and it fits your wish list perfectly.

Not meant to be a flame, but I wouldn't go through the trouble of a cam install for anything smaller than a 224.

Ditto, the comp 216/220 wouldnt be much more noticable than stock, would prob make good low end but I wouldnt think it would net you more than 15-20RWHP. Go with the TR224, one of the best all around cams on the market. Good luck

Since you said emissions, I'd say some sort of a 224 on a 114 ... If that weren't the case, I'd say look at the origional G5 cam It covers everything you asked for except the emissions part. I've had this cam in for about 20K now with no real issues.

another vote for the TR224 on a 114 lsa. Perfect cam IMO for a daily driver. I would post a graph but my server is down for my website. I'll get it up as soon as its available. VERY flat torque curve

I think you should also get an LS6 intake - saw one listed today for $275 in the parts section.

With that low/no maintance on the list and the other stuff, I think an LS6 cam might be worth considering to some degree if you really just want to install and forget about it.

The TR-220 & TR-224 are excellent cams for your application IF your willing to change valve springs occassionally.

If you going to do heads with in the next year or so - I'd go with a 224 XE-R or something similar on a 113 or 114. You can get a year or so out of the springs that go in with the cam and when you do heads get duals or 921's or something etc and have fresh springs that should last for another year if you beat the car hard and maybe two or three if depending on how you drive.

The LPE GT2-3 on a 118.5 LSA will give you all the stuff your looking for and drive stock...this cam has been accused of having a Better Idle that stock but it will need springs on occassion too. It's a 208/220 .573/.580 118.5 LSA ie sort of a BIG LS6 cam with more lift and duration IMO. However, a good 224 ish TR/XE-R cam will be able to make more power all things being equal.

i would assume not seeing how most of the ls1 to ls6 cam dyno's i've seen they were very similar until like 4k when the ls6 started to pull away. the gt2-3 is just a big ls6 cam so to speak.
