When you drive it conservatively you will get good gas mileage, close to stock and when you stomp on it you'll get crappy gas millage. I have an A4 and I would personally do a 2500 - 2800 stall with that cam just my .02 that will help in city driving w/ all the stop and go & will extend the life of your tranny.

i am not too worried about the gas mileage. but it does come into play because if it were to knock it way down, then i would be filling up a couple times a week. but from what i hear it should it it to bad if any, untill i go WOT. and i will get a stall eventually.

If you drive the car exactly the same, you really won't see much of a loss in mileage at all. The car is shooting for a pretty lean AFR under part throttle, so if you keep your foot out of it, you probably won't even notice it. However, if you put it on the floor from every stop light, you are probably going to notice some loss but at least you'll get where you're going in a hurry!

228 cam and no stall is gonna be a DOG. *** backwards way of modding if you ask me. But, as far as the original question, these guys are correct. However, I believe that even with light throttle you will still lose a couple mpgs. Full throttle say bye bye to your tank of gas quick.

yes i have heard that before about how i should do the stall first. but im a senior in high school and i'd rather get help puting in the cam, then putting in a new stall. i got more of a chance of fu**ing up with putting the cam in then a stall.

my gas milage was close to stock with a 228/232 and a tight 3200 stall, but went to hell with the 4000 stall lol.

You were planning on upgrading your valvetrain anyway right? At least need to fire some new valve springs in. I think the 228r sits on a lift in the 580's. Some Comp 918's will do the trick.

im actually getting Patriot Gold .650 Lift Dual Spring Kit incase i ever feel the need to go bigger. i dont trust the 918's. they have to much of a shady history. found some .600 lift springs for 215 or the kit and get dual for 35 bucks more.

That is information you need to give out because it changes things. While 120K+ miles is not a lot, and doing is cam exchange is not an issue, there are certain things that need to be changed along with your cam and things you need to do for the longevity of your engine and drive train over all. You will NEED;

New Oil pump
New Lifters
New Springs
New Push rods

*You also need to do a compression test* IMHO to be on the safe side.

The reason no matter who owned it before over a 100K miles the things i mentioned should be a given. The tranny should be checked out at least an A4 is completely different that an M6 and a manual can withstand more punishment over the years than an automatic can. I am willing to bet the tranny is original meaning all internals in that tranny also have 120K+ miles. (ie clutch packs) to where an M6 you change the clutch out every so often.

The new Comps are .625 lifts and are just fine. Many on here run them without problems.
