Exactly what I was thinking...... This cam requires tuning, don't be fooled. The only way you will be able to take advantage of the cam is to tune the car.

He has an A4 so he will need a tune:

From Texas Speeds Site:

228R

The Texas Speed 228/228 .588/.588 Camshaft With Your Choice of Lobe Seperation.

1600-6300 RPM Power Band; This is an excellent performance camshaft with a smooth idle! Custom tuning for automatic cars required.

In addition, even if it was a M6 tuning is needed to take advantage of the cams potential.

Get my cam, i got a tsp228r, it doesn't require tuning, i've daily driven the car for 20k miles (i now have close to 90k), is EXTREMELY drivable, makes great power, and doesn't require tuning!! and we're talking or so 170 extra ($380 total).

sorry but i love this cam and i feel it's exactly what you're looking for.... with ported heads you'd for sure pick up the power you want
If it doesn't require a tune, why does it say your car was tuned by Vengeance in your signature?

There is no problem with used pushrods as long as they are a hardened chromemoly. You don't want a used stock pushrod.

You can buy the 228R cam new from Texas Speed for $374.

The 02-04 LS6 cam is a perfect compliment for a full bolt on car. I ran one for a few years and loved it. Bone stock my A4 car dyno'd 290 rwhp. With the LS6 cam, full bolt ons and a 3200 converter it dyno'd 348 rwhp with the converter unlocked. More importantly it was nearly flat from 6000-6500 rpms, unlike the stock cam which falls way off after 6K. Best ET was 12.4 at 109mph on Nitto DR's. The key is to shift higher to take advantage of the powerband.

BTW - You can get away with stock pushrods and tune without a problem, however you need the springs.

And I would go with the 243 heads (LS6) TSP has those also with the sodium filled valves. Those 2 would be a potent combo to say the least.

If you're going to get an LS6 cam go for the 2004 cam; it'll get you another 10-15 HP. Here's a decent article that explains the enhancements to the last LS6 cam including it's valve events and base circle change.

But I like the 228R more.

well Iam working on a limited budget!!!! If I go out of pocket 350 for a cam the heads at most Ill be able to go about 500. I found a set of ls2 heads for 350 fully assembled.

What are you talking about? The difference is between the 01 (which re-appeared in the LS2) and 02-04 cams.

I have an LS6 cam with 243 heads off an 03 Z06. If I was only going to change the cam and springs I might not have done the LS6 cam by itself. But as said it does idle very well and there is a noticeable power difference above about 3000RPM. As stated, you need to shift higher (like at least 6500RPM) to get the full benefit.

Sorry, messed up on the 04, it's 02+, but I guess that was the "last LS6 cam" I was referring to...and I suppose the info in the article probably isn't wrong.

I got my specs here, http://www.smokemup.com/tech/ls1.php

but accidentally focused on the LS6 crate motor I'm installing, which GMPP labeled as the 2004 ZO6
