Cams don't change static compression.

compression ratio has absolutely nothing to do with the valvetrain. A compression ratio is when BDC is compared to TDC. BDC in this case is a value of TDC i.e. x1:1 where 1 is the size of the space at TDC compared to the space at BDC which is denoted by x1 where 1 is the space at TDC and x is the coefficient of how many times bigger the space is at BDC. Valves do not change that. combustion chambers sizes, and stroke control that.

damn college is turning me into a nutcase.

longer duration cams lower the cold cranking compression but not compression ratio.

You can change cranking compression/cylinder pressure with camshafts FWIW.
