Default Are ls2 243 heads a little different than ls6?

Only reason I ask this, is because I recently purchased a set of ls2 heads brand new.(got a deal) anyway they have the yellow springs on them, I do not need those. I am using the crane spring tool and well, it just doesn't fit properly. I can't get it to seat correctly and the tool will not compress the spring far enough to remove the retainers. I had a previous set of ls6 243s, and there was absolutely no issue of getting the tool to sit on the head properly. and I do not want to force this tool on, as i dont want to mar my heads. Just wondering if they are designed slightly different as far as the rocker stand is concerned.

Hollow valves on the ls6 heads are the only difference i know of. Try putting the tool farther down on the spring, mine came off with no problems.

I looked at some of my older pics I had of the ls6 heads. They are different. On the new 243 ls2 heads, there is a little ridge on the part by the rocker stand. on the ls6 head, it is just a cylinder shape only. See pics. First pic is ls6, second is ls2

So yeah the new 243 castings have a ridge on their valve cover bolt holes piece. The crane tool will not sit flush because of it. This made what should have been an hour job..an all day affair. Had to buy the cheap but somewhat useful Oreilly valve spring tool. The pulley puller looking one.

maybe use a washer to shim the valve spring tool up so it clears the ridge.
