Cam/Supercharger Question
ok i know they make blower cams out there that are specifically made to take advantage of a blower being on your car but my question is what would happen if lets say you had this cam 224/224 .561/.561 114 LSA would it still make good power or would it make the power output of the SC take a crap? or does it matter what cam you have?
Thanks

also the thing is i really dont want a big cam want to keep it mild plus i will not be able to buy the SC for awhile after the cam i have to do it in stages cause of money so what would happen if i got a blower cam with no blower hehehe would it kill my performance or make it better?

Kinda learning as i go along but will a supercharger pass emissions with a G5 speced cam in it on a 114 LSA?
Thanks

Blower cams are very mild duration, (don't need to keep the valve open since the huffer is doing the work), moderate lift, (idea is to get the valve opened quick to stuff the cylinder), and straight up centerlines with no advance. Just got done profiling one for someone.

Tom,
We are all going to throw generalizations at you so here are mine...
-I'd keep the overlap to a mininum
-I would get a cam with ~114 lsa, you can change LSA to some extent but 113 is the lowest I would go and 116 would be the highest (mine is FMS 230/236/115//+2)
-One cam company (Cam Motion) suggests having around a 6 degree split between intake and exhaust
-I think a 218/224//114 is the smallest I would do, I would look pretty hard at a 224/230/114, maybe 115+2 it would help the idle and emissions a bit

I am in this same problem right now I have a blower coming and I have a C-2 224/224/581/581 112+4. I am looking to get rid of it or trade it to someone that has a good blower cam. I was thinking just like PSJ with 4-6 degrees of split (I am not an expert) so I was just coming up with those figuers out of the air and what I've seen offered as good blower cams. I wanted to keep the 114 just so I could hear the cam a little. But I know that 115-118 would be better for the blower. Should I just have a custom grid made and stick with what I and PSJ were talking about and let Comp put XER lobes or what? I hate asking this cause it is the most asked question and i like to do my own thing also. Sorry I am not trying to steal your thread. PSJ can you hear your cam at all?

My 230/236//115//+2 definitely has a kick to it. I think it sounds like a 224/224//112 cam, basically has a lope but not a sick lope.
I went a wee bit custom on my cam, I went with the 115 LSA mostly to help the idle and maybe extend the peak a bit, but it's debatable if it will really effect the peak.
I would not run a 224/224/112 because it's got so much overlap that you will have boost getting scavenged.
I forget so much stuff because of the conversations I have all week about performance but basically the blower forces in boost in the intake side so you need more duration (ie. time for the valves to stay open) to help scavenge the exhaust side.
My cam has 3.5 degrees of overlap as a comparison. Terry from Cam Motion (made my FMS blower cam) said that some overlap is good for scavenging unburnt gasses.
How many degrees of overlap does a 224/224//114 cam have?

Yes I am not going to use the C-2 because of its 112 mainly. I would do a 114 but I want to have the split duration also to do what PSJ is talking about with helping out the exhaust side. I am debating on the lift but I want to stay away from anything over .580. I want @ .560. What lift are you running PSJ. I was wondering about the type of lobes I am not sure. Should I use the XER ot the XR? Do you want a real agressive lobes on this tyoe of cam? I am going to call a few places just trying to get ya'lls imput. Thanks for the help and advice guys.

Why dont u get the cam i have. It is half way between the TR224 and PSJ cam. It is also from FMS and the specs are 224/230 .587 .593 114. The car drives like a TR224 114 and my goals were to make good power N/A and buy the SC when i get the money for it. The car made really good power N/A for now and im sure it will rock with some Boost. I dont know about the G5 cam with 114 because it has a higher lift on the intake size than the exhaust and u want the opposite of that. Good luck.

That is what I was looking for it has a little more lift on the exhaust side than I really wanted but I like your numbers for N/A it is not bad at all. Looks like a good cam to me. What are you thinking Tom? I don't think the one you were looking at would make any more N/A than this cam, but it does have more lift and duration. Cam you hear this cam at all? Thanks!

Damn i really wanted to have a cam with a good idle(by good i mean rough). isnt a 115 almost stock sounding? I mean i dont want anything over the edge but isnt there a blower cam out there that you would atleast be able to tell there is a aftermarket cam in there? basically just something with a nice rumble at idle.
